Alfred and Frank Doughty, 18-year-old twins of Bayport, had feeen inducted into the Army. :;j Charles F. Maasch had died at his home' in West Sayville at the age of 61 years. Another death was that of Clarabell , Kreye, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kreye. Miss Virginia, Wolff was the first Sayville girl to join the Waves.

A mass meeting of irate residents had been held in Holbrobk in an attempt to halt government plans.to extend the northeast-southwest runway at Mac Arthur Field. Thomas Rogers of Sayville had been recommended by the Suffolk County Republican executive committee for the post of undersheriff. George V. Seiffert of Candee Avenue had retired from the D o u b l e d ay-Doran publishing company after 40 years.
