IEEE HOT LINE: Intended to provide immediate support for engineers seeking information, advice or help regarding an ethics related problem. The goal is to help engineers to practice their professions ethically even in situations where this may lead to conflicts with superiors. Item #1 Code of Ethics; accept responsibility w/r/t safety, health & welfare and disclose promptly Item #2 – assist real or perceived conflicts of interest… and disclose… Item #3 – assist colleagues … and support them in following this code of ethics. Above clearly states that engineers should be involved in following COE yet the IEEE will not aid those engineers. Constitution I‐305‐4 ethics and member Conduct committee specifically prohibits IEEE involvement‐ “Neither the Ethics and Member Conduct Committee nor any of its members shall solicit or otherwise invite complaints, nor shall they provide advice to individuals”. It appears that the IEEE HQ is itself acting unethically in not accepting the Code of Ethics when it specifically states in essence – get involved ‐ Goal is to remove the above words in the constitution and re‐establish an Ethics Hot Line which ran without any problems from August 1996 – August 1997. The re‐establishment of an Ethics Hot Line Provide an Attorney to consider ethics related problems, if necessary/required. Based on experience per NSPE very little financial assistance required. Estimates are $5,000 – 10,000. Unknown Victor G. Zourides April 30, 2014 X

Increase the value of Senior membership to create a desire for elevation. Ideas include a direct discount on membership cost, one free society membership, free publication access incentives, a SM pin when accepted, IEEE SM logos for business cards, etc. Members often ask why they should bother to apply for Senior Membership. The suggestion is to create an immediate real value to Senior Membership, and to encourage self‐promotion of Senior Membership and IEEE. Senior members are more likely to maintain their membership. Retention/Membership Number of SM applications increasing. Public use of Senior Member Logos on business cards and publications. Yes – it would mean less revenue for Senior members, but increased retention rates should offset. Unknown John Schmidt

Offer a program with either discounts for bulk membership purchases or brand recognition for companies that pay for employee’s IEEE memberships. Offering incentives to companies that pay for or reimburse employee’s IEEE memberships would help to encourage businesses to be bigger supporters of IEEE. This would also help to increase membership if more companies paid for memberships. This will motivate and encourage more companies to get involved with IEEE, which will in turn promote and help to increase memberships Increase corporate involvement Increase membership No Unknown Catherine Alton,

Form an IEEE Liaison Committee to interface between Academia and Industry The recommendation comports with one of the goals of SC2014 (i.e., to voice the ideas, issues and recommendations that will impact the development and growth of IEEE worldwide, reinforcing its vitality and relevance) in that, if presented and implemented, local IEEE liaisons may not only realize the value to the local academic institutions in what might be expected to be industrial pragmatism, and the local industry realize the value in receiving locally‐ trained workers with some training and/or understanding of how education is leveraged in the real world, but IEEE will realize the benefit of any publicity that will necessarily come out of their role Come up with a Mission Statement for the IEEE Liaison Committee Assuming the committee is formed, each section representative of the committee should be required to host at least 2 events per year, which effectively brings together local academia and local (or national) industry. Guess is not more that the cost of local section society meetings Unknown John Vodopia
