Arlington  Dramatists  Project  (ADP)  was  the  new  play  development  wing  of  Washington   Shakespeare  Company.    In  addition  to  acting  as  literary  director  in  charge  of  new  works  for   Washington  Shakespeare  Company,  I  programmed  a  nationally  recognized  workshop  series  for  new   works  in  development.   • Artistic  Director,  Open  Circle  Theater,  Seattle  WA,  1997  –  2000   Seattle-­‐based  Open  Circle  Theater  was  a  multi-­‐disciplinary  performance  company  committed  to   the  development  of  new  works  and  adaptations  that  speak  to  the  human  condition  through   fantasy  and  mythic  storytelling.    From  1997  to  2000,  Open  Circle  presented  twenty  full   productions,  with  six  critically-­‐acclaimed  shows  selected  to  appear  at  venues  throughout  the   region  including  A  Contemporary  Theatre,  Seattle  Repertory,  Re-­‐bar,  Bumbershoot,  and  Whidbey   Island  Center  for  the  Arts.    Open  Circle  developed  the  OCT  Youth  Project  in  1997,  a  theatre   program  for  legally  free  and  at-­‐risk  youth.     • Associate  Artistic  Director,  BACA  Downtown,  1990-­1991   Brooklyn-­‐based  BACA  Downtown  was  a  not-­‐for-­‐profit  theater  and  gallery  devoted  to  the   development  and  presentation  of  new  works.    BACA  was  also  the  original  producer  for  the  OBIE-­‐ winning  New  Works  Project  under  the  stewardship  of  playwrights  Mac  Wellman  and  Jeffrey  Jones.       Lectures   • Playwright's  Lab  at  Hollins  University/Taubman  Museum  of  Art,  Roanoke,  VA   Guest  Speakers  Series,  2012:  Presentation  on  gender-­‐queer  focus  in  my  own  work;  mentored   MFA  Playwrights’  participation  in  “Overnight  Sensations”,  a  24-­‐hour  10-­‐minute  play  festival   • Pride  Films  &  Plays,  Chicago,  IL.  LGBT  Theater  in  Chicago  -­  Looking  Back  and  Looking  Forward,   2010   • Drama  Workshop,  Des  Moines  IA.    New  Play  Development  Seminar,  2000   • Drama  Workshop,  Des  Moines  IA.  Forum  on  Producing  New  Plays,  2000     Teaching   • Academy  at  Citadel  Theatre,  Lake  Forest,  IL:  Melodrama  2012;  Epic  Theatre  2013   Lead  instructor  for  performance  workshops  in  theatrical  genres;  grades  9-­‐12.   • Montgomery  College,  MD  –  Tartuffe,  Instructor/Assistant  Director,  2005   In  conjunction  with  an  undergraduate  production  of  Tartuffe,  I  developed  and  led  introductory   workshops  in  Commedia  dell’Arte  and  17th  Century  French  court  performance.     • Stage  West  Theatre,  Des  Moines  IA  -­  Auditioning  for  Success,  Instructor,  2005   Through  lectures,  discussions,  workshops,  and  coaching,  students  learn  how  to  plan  for  audition   interviews,  select  and  prepare  monologues,  present  cold  and  prepared  readings,  and  receive  advice   on  résumes,  headshots,  and  agent/casting  director  correspondence.   • Arena  Stage,  Washington  DC  –  Student  Playwrights  Project;  2004,  Instructor/Performer   Eight  new  short  works  from  DC  students  (grades  6  through  12)  are  selected  in  competition  for   development  and  performance  at  Arena  Stage  and  The  Kennedy  Center.   • Open  Circle  Theater,  Seattle  WA  –  OCT  Youth  Project;  1997-­98,  2004,  Founder/Instructor   The  OCT  Youth  Project  was  an  annual  summer  theatre  program  for  legally-­‐free  and  at-­‐risk  youth,   ages  10-­‐17,  culminating  in  public  presentations  of  an  original  theatre  piece  developed  by  the  youth   during  the  project.     Education   • BGS,  Performance  &  Cultural  Studies,  1990,  University  of  Iowa,  Iowa  City,  IA   -­‐  awarded  academic  exchange  year  in  drama,  1986-­‐87,  Hull  University,  England   -­‐  two-­‐year  scholarship,  performance
