From Brothel to Boutique This location is steeped in history! In the early 18th century it became too crowded in Punda. Just outside the city walls, mayor Pieter de Meij had already built a few houses in the late 17th century in Pietermaai District. When the city walls were torn down around 1850 the district flourished with entertainment, theaters and restaurants. Wealthy, entrepreneurs and artists, inhabited the city, it was a vibrant area with a nice mix of people. However, in the mid 20th century people began vacating the city. The Shell company built houses elsewhere for its employees and with the invention of the automobile, areas with cheaper land prices were more accessible. Suddenly, Pietermaai was a rundown neighborhood inhabited by homeless people and dominated by criminals, prostitutes and drug users. Meanwhile, we have left this time behind us once again. With inspiring entrepreneurial spirit, many buildings have been restored to their former glory and the vibrant character is back. Our five beautiful buildings, renovated but breathing history and, if you listen, they like telling their story. The Scuba Lodge has gone from a stately mansion to a brothel, and now transformed into our beautiful boutique hotel by the sea in Curaçao!

Birthday Cake A True Story. Linda met him through a friend. He studied at the University of Eindhoven. She was from the Netherlands and he was from Curaçao. Soon they became a couple, and when he wanted to return to the island after his studies, they got married and moved to the tropics. When she celebrates her birthday in Curaçao for the first time, he has to work for just a few days off the island. In order to not be alone, she invites his whole family to come over. Before leaving, he gives her some tips: gifts brought by guests should not be opened in front of them, because that is considered rude; it's handy to have a few disposable plates on hand for when guests want to take some of the food home for their family; and if you say a certain start time, guests will most likely arrive an hour later.
