September 16, 2015 ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SARATOGA UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES Saratoga Union School District Board of Trustees has selected Nancy B. Johnson, a 26-year Saratoga resident, as its new superintendent, pending Board approval of the superintendent contract on September 22, 2015. Johnson has most recently served as Associate Superintendent of Human Resources in the Cupertino Union School District for nine years. “Clearly, the Saratoga village loves its children and schools and generously supports every opportunity for their success. I strongly desire to add my energy and leadership experience to the district’s many cherished traditions and innovative efforts underway,” Johnson said. Johnson adds that another underlying motivation in joining Saratoga Union School District is to “in small measure pay back the community for its extraordinary academic and social-emotional support of my own three children who attended elementary, middle and high school in SUSD.” She describes herself as an instructional leader whose attention is “riveted on efforts and resources to empower learner-focused classrooms that ensure students are fully engaged at their individual instructional levels.” Johnson began her educator career in higher education administration at San Jose State University, and subsequently, she served as a primary and intermediate grades classroom teacher and district mathematics and new teacher induction program leader in both Cupertino and the Cambrian School District. Johnson earned her master’s degree in Education Leadership from Santa Clara University. Her bachelor’s degree in English was awarded by the University of California at Berkeley. The SUSD Board will vote on Johnson’s employment agreement at its next regular meeting on September 22, 2015. Upon Board approval, she would begin as superintendent on October 7, 2015. Johnson succeeds Lane Weiss who resigned in April after twelve years as superintendent to serve as Area Superintendent - Central Valley, for Aspire Public Schools.
