In return we ask from you the best you can give. We’ll keep a close watch on all your work and will report regularly (five times a year) to your parents and sponsors to make sure that you personally are part of the success story that first drew you to Bellerbys. The following information tells you what to do to prepare for college life at Bellerbys, what to expect when you arrive and introduces you to some of the important things you need to know about being a student in the UK. We look forward to getting to know you and sharing in the pride of your achievement. With every good wish for your success, Everyone at Bellerbys College
New Biometric Residence Permit If you have successfully obtained a visa, you will receive a decision letter and a 30 day vignette (i.e. entry clearance stamp) in your passport which is valid for 30 days. This vignette enables you to travel to the UK within the 30 day period provided and it is upon your arrival to the UK that you would obtain your BRP (also known as the Biometric Residence Permit). Obtaining your BRP upon your arrival to the UK has gotten easier. Bellerbys College now offers you an opportunity to collect your BRP directly from the college instead of the post office. To be able to do this, we will provide you with an ACL code on your CAS statement which you must enter on your online visa application form. This will enable the UK Visas and Immigration (also known as the UKVI) to send your BRP directly to your college for collection so you would need to contact our Student Services team upon your arrival. If you do not have an ACL code or do not enter the ACL code on your online visa application form, your BRP will not be sent to the college so you would need to collect it from the local post office stated on your decision letter. Whether you are collecting your BRP from the college or the local post office, you must make plans to collect it immediately within 10 days from the date of your arrival to the UK, or within 10 days from the date it becomes available either at your college, or at the post office branch stated on your decision letter (whichever is later). If you are under the age of 18 you will be required to be accompanied to the post office branch by a Responsible Adult and you can also contact our Student Services team to arrange this.

LIVING IN THE UK Life in the UK will be different from home and it is not at all uncommon for you to miss family and friends. Britain is a multi-cultural society which values diversity. At Bellerbys we believe that the principles of respect, responsibility (for yourself and others) and tolerance to all other students of differing cultures are central to life both at the college and within the UK. Politeness and punctuality are very important in British society. Saying ‘thank you’ if you receive something, ‘excuse me’ if you wish to interrupt or ‘sorry’ if you bump into someone will help you go a long way to integrate more easily. Good time keeping is also very important, whether it’s at your homestay or residence, in the classroom or just going about your general day to day activities. Always let someone know if you are going to be late.
Getting used to life in the UK When you arrive we will help you to settle in as quickly and as smoothly as possible. You may feel that not everything is as you expected. We know that you may feel anxious that you do not know anyone, but everyone feels the same and you will soon get to meet your fellow classmates. Talk to us if you are worried, we will try to help. You’ll be able to talk to your Personal Tutor, teachers, the Student Services team, your homestay or resident supervisor. We are here to help and support you and make sure you enjoy your time here at Bellerbys College and are successful in achieving your goals.
Homesickness and problems If you feel homesick or have any worries or concerns, please speak to the welfare officer at the College, your supervisor or your homestay.
Your Health There is a Nurse available in each college Monday – Friday. They are there to support you with pre-existing medical conditions and if you become unwell whilst you are here. In order that they and other college staff can fulfill their professional responsibilities with regards to their care of you they will have access to relevant health information that you supply. Please do not bring any non-prescription medicines (medicines bought without needing to see a doctor/healthcare professional) to the UK with you. A wide range of over-the-counter health products, medicines and remedies are available in the UK through pharmacies and other approved outlets. Any non-prescription medicines that you do bring will need to be declared to the Nurse so she may assess them. The Nurse may decide for safety reasons to store these medicines elsewhere on your behalf or until you return home or they may be safely disposed of. The Nurse will keep a record for all students who take prescribed medicines. The Nurse will meet with all students to complete an essential risk assessment with them, to determine whether it is safe for them to store and administer their own prescription medicine. All students taking prescribed medicine should bring with them at least 4 weeks’ supply/sufficient medicine. All medicines should include labelled dosage, be in the original packaging and accompanied by a translation. Please also bring a letter from your doctor, in English, giving details of any diagnosed conditions, treatment and medicines prescribed. Please bring along to your student induction all medicines and letters that you have brought to College with you. The compulsory Pre Arrival Health document, including the Consent to Share Health Data form, which you will already have received, must be returned before you arrive at College. It is vitally important that your College Nurse is aware of all current medical conditions and significant medical history that may be relevant during your time at Bellerbys so that the correct support and guidance can be given. If you declare a health issue and/or medicines then you will be required to see the nurse. This will be explained during your induction.
