LIFE ONBOARD

The ‘Island Passage’ is purpose built to explore. We visit gorgeous coves, fiords and islands that larger ships simply cannot access. Our cruises specifically exclude long periods of travel - we usually cover just 3 hours each day - and feature frequent daily guided excursions. We utilise easy access landing craft and discover the wilderness in groups of a dozen. Kayaks, snorkel and fishing gear are available as well as the helicopter for trips beyond the range of the ships tenders. We welcome the opportunity of greeting you onboard.

Life onboard The ship is very large for just 24 passengers in a child free environment. She excels with very spacious cabins, very generous en-suites, an enormous interior dining and saloon area plus an expansive aft deck where guests spend a large amount of their time. There is no feeling onboard of being cramped. The result is more like being onboard a luxury private yacht.

Our officers and crew are extremely well trained to ensure your safety and comfort. Several are from the super-yacht industry and understand your needs well in advance. Our housekeeping crew aim to present the ship as if you are the first guests ever to step onboard. We do our utmost to provide perfection at all levels. Our guides transfer you ashore with bottled waters, snacks, sun screen, beach towels, daily sterilised snorkel gear, kayaks and, just in case things don’t go as planned, first aid kits. For outdoor entertainment, our ship carries a purpose-built landing craft, large tenders, sea kayaks, fishing and snorkelling equipment.

The helicopter is available for trips beyond the range of the tenders or as required. Never a dull moment, although lazing in a deckchair is always an acceptable option. During each trip, our ten-person crew is on hand to share their knowledge of the ocean and the local activities. Our landing craft and tenders are designed to provide fast and efficient transport to and from the ship and are well suited for exploring the local bays, islands, and rivers that are right on your doorstep. All boats are manned with guides, two-way radios and safety equipment for your peace of mind. We know that you will enjoy our ship and the experience of life onboard.

“The cruise was amazing, we loved the ship, the crew, the food, the location, everything. We feel so privileged to be given the opportunity to be a part of this.“ Rhonda & Stephen, NSW Australia

Day 3 - Your Waiheke day could start with a refreshing ocean swim off the back of the ship or sleep in until it’s time for a sumptuous breakfast on deck (with champagne if you fancy) – whatever you need to begin the day in a great mood. Late morning we go ashore for wine tasting. Wine Tour Kennedy Point Vineyard was established in 1996 and from the beginning, the philosophy of the family owned vineyard has been to focus on producing the very best wines from the site matched with thorough attention in the Vineyard and wine production. Obsidian Vineyard nestles in the coastal hills of the Onetangi Valley adjacent to the northern coast of Waiheke Island. Here, small batches of wine are grown on four discrete hillsides set out in an amphitheatrelike fashion. The sheltered vines enjoy high levels of heat summation, tempered by the maritime breeze. Passage Rock Wines was established in 1993 to specialise in producing Waiheke wines of distinction, recognising the strengths of each site and region to produce the best wine for the season, the site and the most appropriate grape variety. We finish with lunch at the Passage Rock café. Seated amongst the vines, the café is the perfect setting to just relax and take in the beautiful views. The ship is anchored in the bay below and after lunch we are back onboard to move to our next location.

Day 5 - Coastal explorations add a special magic to your Great Barrier experience. You can do it the fast way, in one of our high-powered tenders, or you can slip into a sea kayak and enjoy the tranquillity of paddling at your pace. And then there’s the fantastic fishing – you catch ‘em, we’ll cook ‘em. Today the choices are many: forest-hiking to the kauri dam, Kaitoke hot springs or the summit of Mount Hobson; a peaceful kayak tour on the pristine waters of the harbour; a trip to Miners Head in one of our tenders; fishing at a never-fail spot known only to the locals; or seabird photography from a chair on the deck. We’ll help you to find something that suits your interests. Day 6 - Kawau’s unique character rests on the historic shoulders of Sir George Grey, who owned the island from 1862 to 1888. Day 3 - After enjoying another one of chef’s indulgent breakfasts there’s still time for a swim or a walk before we up anchor and make our way north through even more beautiful islands, arriving in Hog Harbour in the late afternoon. For those onboard keen to experience the thrill of fishing “tropical style” this is a good opportunity. Our guides in the fishing tender will shadow the ship up the coast in search of the game fish that the area is known for. On the right day the results can be spectacular with tuna, wahoo, and mahi mahi often landed. The views as we cruise north are unforgettable. If conditions are right some of our local friends will deliver a basket of local lobster. The evening sunset brings the day to a close with the Captains Dinner. Day 4 - Today, your cruise adventure will see you landing on world famous Champagne Beach – said to be the most beautiful beach in the world – which promises the bluest water, whitest sand and greenest jungle – it’s just breathtaking. You can swim, sunbathe, snorkel, kayak and chat with the local pareu sellers. Later today we cross the straits to explore Maewo and Pentecost. Day 5 - In Asanvari you’ll get a look at the ni-Vanuatu way of life. You’ll also get to know their sense of humour because smiling and laughing are major pastimes here. You can watch a custom dance, chat with the locals, and learn how to cook lap-lap, walk to the village gardens, and visit a beautiful waterfall or snorkel in the protected lagoon. And make sure you

Day 7 - Today is a very special day, and as we anchor off Ranon on Ambrym Island you will immediately notice what makes this island so unique. It has two active volcanoes, My Marum and Mt Benbow

and is sometimes called Black Island because of its black beach and its “black magic” history. Today the locals have extended us a special invitation to experience the secretive and mystical Rom dance, a performance rarely seen by outsiders. There will be ample time to spend with these wonderful and very friendly people before returning to the ship. This evening, at anchor, we witness the amazing glow of the nearby volcanoes. Day 8 - After a relaxing start to the morning, perhaps taking a swim before breakfast, we then head towards the small and beautiful Crab Bay. This remote bay has world class snorkelling and untouched, uninhabited beaches and today the pace is slow. After 3 days of culture this is a very relaxing day. Cool off with a swim, kayak or snorkel off the beautiful beach. We stay here tonight with the lagoon providing a comfortable overnight anchorage. Day 9 - The trade winds behind us it makes for pleasant cruising through the outer islands off Santo. The fishing is good through the channels so we can expect to please chef by towing a lure behind the ship. There are many secluded anchorages in this area and we will look at the weather to find the perfect sheltered bay to spend the final evening. Another swim or walk ashore before the farewell dinner with the captain and crew. Make sure that you have exchanged addresses with fellow travellers before retiring for the night. Day 10 - On the way to Santo Wharf we serve a continental breakfast before you disembark at 9am. We transfer you to the airport for the onward flights.

Day 1 - Welcome to Paradise. We meet at Denarau Marina at 2pm for a personal greeting from the Captain, refreshments and cold towels on boarding ‘Island Passage’. Take your time to explore your home for the next week, meet fellow guests and our fabulous crew. A light afternoon delight is served on deck as we move to Malolo Island for our first anchorage in beautiful tropical waters. The tenders are ready to take you on the island. The remainder of the afternoon is yours to move into Fijian time and soak up the surrounding sea and landscapes that most mortals only dream about. A must visit is to the Yacht Club Island Bar that is frequented by locals and yacht owners alike. This iconic sand between the toes beach bar should not be missed. We remain at anchor each evening to give you a comfortable nights sleep. Day 2 - We encourage a refreshing morning swim before breakfast. We then continue north to Naviti Island where our gorgeous anchorage bay opens up before your eyes as we turn the headland. The afternoon is full of exploring the beaches, coves and atolls.
