Ship Ahoy for Fruit Logistica Innovation Award 2013 Apfel-Schiffchen® from Elbe-Obst – crunchy and crisply dried The Apfel-Schiffchen® from Elbe-Obst are a healthy snack and they were nominated for the Fruit Logistica Innovations Award 2013. Whether at home or on the road – the dried apple slices are a natural alternative to salty potato chips and gummy bears. According to the organizer, outstanding new products and services were selected that have an impulse potential for the fruit trade industry. Through a new drying procedure the apple slices have very low residual moisture and therefore a high preservation degree for a longer shelf life. The fruits are dried evenly and slowly over the complete cross-section. The cell structure of the apple is protected and ensures the unique crispiness of the Apfel-Schiffchen®. In this procedure, the color stability is preserved so that the apple segments do not turn brown. In order to maintain the product features mentioned above, Elbe-Obst does not use transparent bags or bags with a transparent window but presents the ApfelSchiffchen® in an eye-catching "maritime" packaging. Moreover the bag is covered from within with a protective lining, this serves as an aroma barrier to protect the apple slices from odors from the environment, moisture and UV radiation. The consumer also receives service and additional information, by scanning the QR-Code on the bag, which is linked to a FAQ list. The evenly cut apple segments in the shape of a ship give them their product name: Apfel-Schiffchen®. The contents of one bag are equivalent to about four apples that come from the Alte Land. The Apfel-Schiffchen® are available with 50 gram contents in the groceries stores and in the online shop under www.apfelschiffchen.de for approximately 2.30€.
