Literary Festival 2018 Short Story Competition We all love a good story. Well here’s your chance to show us your storytelling skills. If you’re aged 7-13 enter our competition and write us an original, imaginative story and you could have it read out to a crowd of hundreds at the next Chiddingstone Castle Literary Festival and published in Scoop Children’s Magazine. The Task • Write a story in 500 words • Stories can be hand-written or typed, and illustrated (not obligatory) • Each entry must be headed with child’s name, age group and school • Entries must be posted to Education Officer, Chiddingstone Castle, Chiddingstone, Kent TN8 7AD by Friday 16th March 2018 The Categories • Two age groups: 7-9 years and 10-13 years The Judges • Pete Williamson (illustrator of Guy Bass’ Stitch Head series), Clementine MacmillanScott (Scoop Magazine), Imogen Lycett Green (Betjeman Poetry Prize), Victoria Dilly (National Literacy Trust) and Fiona Glossop (Chiddingstone Castle Education Officer) The Prizes • There will be a winner, a runner-up and a prize for best illustration in each age category • The winning stories will be read out at the Literary Festival on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May and published in Scoop Children’s Magazine • Winners will receive complimentary tickets to see Children’s Laureate Lauren Child talking about her latest book on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May and will be given a signed copy of her book Save the Dates • Sunday 6th May: An inspiring programme of writers for adults and teenagers • Monday 7 May: Bank Holiday Monday, a whole day of exciting family events • Tuesday 8 May: Schools Programme of superb children’s author appearances www.chiddingstonecastle.org.uk/literary-festival t: @ChiddLitFest f: @chidd_castle i: @chidd_castle
