Software Development project-based traineeship programme Our traineeship programme has been devised to help people to access a rich, project-based experience working in a software development team with a professional lead and a purposeful project while they learn.

Here’s how the programme works: ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

We take on a small-sized software development project with an element of data science We allocate a tech lead to the project We allocate a mentor/product owner who oversees the progress of the project on behalf of the client, and supports students to work at their best to meet the clients needs We recruit keen and capable students to our programme We put students through a training programme to get them up to speed in programming, data science and in project participation When a student shows capability, the tech lead and mentor will allocate small tasks to allow the student to make a contribution to the project Students experience all stages of the project, can input ideas, can contribute code and can learn

A typical traineeship programme lasts around 6 months and offers around 400 hours of team experience and 300 hours of formal learning (in person and online).

How does it benefit the trainee: ● ● ● ●

Improved technical skills (programming, data science, git, use of communication tools) Improved communication skills Experience of working in a team Demonstration of commitment to learning and to software development

How could our programme benefit your company? If you are considering taking on a software development apprentice, or a trainee We recruit people who have already invested some time in their own learning and have demonstrated a commitment to this career path already. We give them the opportunity to experience working in a software team and to complete our training programme. This represents a significantly lowered hire risk, a risk worth investing in. We will only certificate a student if we have seen that they have the skills and attitude that you are looking for in a new employee. If you are considering bringing on new talent, our programme provides an opportunity to do this easily ● ● ● ●

We will present you with a small pool of vetted candidates from which you can recruit You recruit your trainee and pay for their training with us as an employer loan to the trainee We train students in programming, data science and some front-end development We use our established work experience programme format to ensure that your trainee has a rich, project-based experience of software development including skills that are relevant to your work (agreed with you) Your trainee will be mentored by our team and you will be kept informed of progress You provide periods of experience at your company throughout the programme, with a three week ‘internship’ at the end You employ the student after a satisfactory ‘internship’ period

You can choose to be more involved: ● ●

You could provide a project (this might be a side project, a small low-priority project or a CSR project) for the work experience programme You could provide a developer to be involved in the work experience programme and to lead a particular part of the project that is relevant to your own work. This would be a great opportunity to give one of your capable junior developers some experience in leading a team and we can give feedback

What our students say about our work experience programme: ‘... I was quite certain that I wanted to be in this industry and if anything, the experience I have gained from my time here has basically made me go “yep, I made the right choice.” ... The stuff I have learned about working on a project, of programming and even Git (which confused the living daylights out of me prior to my time here) is invaluable to me and I cannot express how thankful I am…’ Jay worked on our ArtworkingWords app prototype from March 2018 to September 2018
