TRYST THEATRE

“Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me” Three men. Three nationalities. One cell. An Englishman, an Irishman and an American are taken hostage by unseen Arabs in Beirut in 1989. They find themselves chained up together in a filthy cellar and are simultaneously powerless, angry, terrified and bored. So how do they survive? The play - heartrendingly compassionate, tenderly tragic but also uproariously funny - explores their daily crisis, how in the midst of the horror they find strength from communication, humour and faith and how they deal with the very real prospect of going insane. Twenty years on, with Scottish hostages still languishing in the Middle East, Frank McGuinness’s life-enhancing play has a timeless relevance and resonance.

Tryst Theatre Tryst Theatre are delighted to be performing their premiere of Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me as part of the Tryst Springtime Festival here in Falkirk Town Hall. It brings back happy memories of great shows over the years such as The Steamie, Blood Brothers, Bouncers and A Night in the Ukraine. Tryst started as Larbert High School Former Pupils’ Dramatic Society over thirty years ago. They travel extensively, performing in places as far afield as Grangemouth, Norway, Ireland, Inverness and Israel. After tonight’s performance, they set out on their Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me 2009 UK Tour, first flying to East Anglia where they will perform tomorrow night in the Felixstowe Drama Festival and then heading for Welwyn Garden City. Tryst are sponsored by Glasgow solicitors Mitchells Roberton, some of whom are here tonight, and the club is very grateful for their fantastic support.
