South Carolina Visits Greenville For Tuesday Night Matchup The South Carolina Stingrays and Greenville Swamp Rabbits meet for the first time in 2018 on Tuesday night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Having not seen each other since Dec. 23, the two teams have gone in different directions in the standings. While the Rays are on the verge of clinching a spot in the 2018 Kelly Cup Playoffs, the Swamp Rabbits have fallen to the bottom of the South Division, 11 points back of Atlanta and the final spot in the postseason. South Carolina is still five points back of Florida for first place with two games in hand. The Stingrays hold the top spot in the ECHL in both defense and penalty killing, allowing just 2.18 goals per game while killing off 90.7% of their opponents’ power plays. The Swamp Rabbits are eighth-best on the power play at 18.5% and is tied for the league lead with nine wins when trailing after one period. Bindulis Sends Rays Home With Overtime Win Kris Bindulis knocked home a rebound in front of the net to give the South Carolina Stingrays a 2-1 win over the Toledo Walleye in the final minute of overtime on Saturday night at the Huntington Center. Parker Milner saved 25 shots for the Stingrays to earn his 19th victory of the year while Joe Devin scored his team-leading 17th goal of the season on the power play in the first period. Bindulis provided the OT winner for the second time this season, scoring with just 28 seconds remaining in the extra period for his fourth goal of the year. Forward Hampus Gustafsson brought the puck up ice down the right wing after a lead pass by Steven Whitney. Gustafsson got a shot on net that was stopped by Toledo goaltender Pat Nagle, but the rebound came back to the front of the cage for Bindulis, who slammed it home to win the game.

All-Time History vs. Greenville South Carolina has an overall record of 60-31-9-10 in 110 all-time regular season meetings with the Swamp Rabbits, and are 4-2 against their in-state rival in the playoffs after the teams’ met for the first time with a 6-game series last spring. Last year during the 201617 season, the divisional opponents met 14 times with the Stingrays and first-year head coach Ryan Warsofsky finishing 9-2-3-0. This season the two squads match up 12 total times. Thus far Rays are 6-1-1 in the first eight of those contests. Bindulis’ Overtime Dramatics Defenseman Kris Bindulis scored his second overtime game-winner of the season on Saturday night to defeat Toledo 2-1. Two of the rookie’s four career goals have come in overtime this season, with his other strike coming in Norfolk on Jan. 19. The Riga, Latvia native has now seen action in 31 ECHL contests this year while on a contract with the Washington Capitals, posting 14 points. Power Play Turning a Corner The Stingrays scored power play goals in three consecutive games during last week’s Central Division road trip to Cincinnati and Toledo, turning around their man-advantage unit which has struggled at times during the 2017-18 season. First, defenseman Paul Geiger scored a power play strike on Wednesday against the Cyclones, while Kelly Zajac added a man-advantage tally in the first minute of Friday’s third period in Toledo and Joe Devin converted during a 5-on-3 opportunity in the first period of Saturday’s win. SC is 17th in the ECHL with a 16.6% conversion rate on the PP and hopes to improve its numbers down the stretch in the final month of the regular season. Devin Notches Team-High 17th Goal Captain Joe Devin scored in both games against Toledo last weekend and now leads the Stingrays in goals (17), assists (28), points (45) and shots on goal (153). All of those numbers are careerhighs for the team’s captain except for his goal total, which is one short of his 18 tallies that came in 2015-16. The Scituate, Mass. native also has five power play goals this year, which is four behind when he had nine in 2014-15.
