Stingrays Host Swamp Rabbits For Super Hero Night Saturday The Stingrays and Swamp Rabbits will go head-to-head for their third matchup of 12 during the 2017-18 season on Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. While the two have split the first two meetings, Greenville is currently in second place in the ECHL’s South Division with 19 points, while the Stingrays are fourth with 16 points. The Rays are coming off a 5-2 loss to Jacksonville on Tuesday morning, while the Swamp Rabbits recently defeated Orlando on Friday night in Greenville. With an offense averaging 4.69 goals per game, Greenville is No. 1 in the league in scoring. South Carolina has been a more defensively oriented team, allowing just 2.64 goals per game which is fourth in the ECHL. The Stingrays are also ninth-best on the penalty kill with a 85.7% killing rate on the season. Greenville’s offensive success has extended over to the power play, scoring on 26.8% of man-advantage situations, which is second in the league. Jacksonville Defeats SC In School Day Game Jacksonville Icemen forwards Emerson Clark and Jimmy Lodge each had three points in a 5-2 defeat of the South Carolina Stingrays in a school day game with a 10:30 a.m. start time on Tuesday at the Veterans Memorial Arena. The Stingrays got goals from forwards Dylan Margonari and Steven Whitney in the loss, while Taylor Cammarata, Kelly Zajac and Frankie Simonelli each added assists. Goaltender Jamie Phillips earned the victory for Jacksonville, the team’s first win at home in franchise history, by making 29 saves. South Carolina goaltender Jeff Jakaitis stopped 22 shots for the Rays in a losing effort. The Stingrays outshot Jacksonville 31-27 in the contest, while both teams finished 1-for-6 on the man-advantage.

SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS HOCKEY Scouting The Swamp Rabbits Greenville is on fire, having won eight consecutive games and are undefeated thus far in the month of November. The team’s last loss came to Manchester on Oct. 27. The Swamp Rabbits have an overall mark of 9-3-1-0 and are in second place in the ECHL’s South Division. The team’s top ranked offense is led by forward Allan McPherson, who leads the league with 22 points on seven goals and 15 assists in just 13 games. Former Stingray Caleb Herbert is just behind with 20 points on seven goals and 13 assists. Fresh off a two-goal performance against Orlando on Friday night, Brenden Troock now has 14 points in 12 games on seven goals and seven assists. eague’s scoring rankings. Defenseman Joe Houk, who has been a thorn in the Stingrays’ side, leads the team’s blueliners with 11 points on four goals and seven assists while Sergey Zborovskiy has 10 points on four goals and six assists. Second-year goaltender Brandon Halverson has made eight appearances, while Ty Rimmer has suited up seven times and has the better numbers of the two with a GAA of 2.77 and a save percentage at 0.927. All-Time History vs. Greenville South Carolina has an overall record of 55-31-8-10 in 104 all-time regular season meetings with the Swamp Rabbits, and are 4-2 against their in-state rival in the playoffs, with all of their postseason matchups coming in the 6-game series last spring. Last year during the 2016-17 season, the divisional opponents met 14 times with the Stingrays and first-year head coach Ryan Warsofsky finishing 7-12-0. This season the two squads match up 12 times with the next occurance coming in South Carolina on Dec. 3. Whitney Gaining Steam Forward Steven Whitney has been on the scoresheet with points in his last two games by scoring a goal in Jacksonville Tuesday morning and adding an assist against Atlanta last Saturday. The Reading, Mass. native is tied for the team lead in scoring with nine points on four goals and five assists and began the year with a hot start, scpring points in each of his first four games with South Carolina. Quick Start For Cammarata Rookie forward Taylor Cammarata didn’t waste any time getting on the scoresheet in his professional debut Tuesday morning in Jacksonville, posting an assist on his very first touch of the puck during his first shift. The winger took a pass from defenseman Mike Krieg in the neutral zone and flipped the puck with his backhand to center Dylan Margonari, who rushed into the offensive zone and scored his second goal of the season. The Plymouth, Minn. native played collegiately for the University of Minnesota the last four seasons. Defensive Specialists South Carolina has fared well defensively in their first 11 games of the 2017-18 season, allowing just 2.64 goals per outing which is fourth-best in the ECHL. The Stingrays have only allowed more than three goals twice this season, and average an allowance of 28.64 shots on goal per game, which is fifth in the league.

SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS HOCKEY Captain Joe Leading The Way Stingrays’ captain Joe Devin has six points in his last six games on three goals and three assists. After an empty-net goal to seal a victory over Jacksonville on Nov. 5, Devin scored another in the final minute on Nov. 7 against Reading to send the game into overtime. The following night, the Scituate, Mass. native started a short-handed rush that turned into a game-winning goal for Frankie Simonelli. He then posted a power play goal and an assist against Atlanta on Nov. 10 and added a helper on Tuesday morning in Jacksonville. Devin is now tied for the team lead in scoring and plusminus with nine points and a +5 through 11 games this season. Milner’s Solid Start Goaltender Parker Milner made his first ECHL start of the 2017-18 season last Wednesday and did not disappoint, stopping 38 of 39 shots en route to a 2-1 victory over Reading. He also played well in his second appearance a week ago last Saturday, making 22 saves in an overtime loss to Atlanta. Milner has a goals against average of 1.46 after his two starts to go with a 0.952 save percentage. The 27-year-old began his season in the AHL with the Hershey Bears, playing in six games before being assigned to the Rays. Closing In On 100 Stingrays forward Kelly Zajac, who recently played in his 100th ECHL game last Friday against Atlanta, now has 97 career ECHL points and is closing in on the century mark after picking up assists in each of his last two games. Zajac broke the 50-point mark last season with South Carolina, and has seven points (two goals, five assists) in nine ECHL games this year. Atlanta Uses OT Goal To Edge Rays The Atlanta Gladiators defeated the South Carolina Stingrays in overtime for the second consecutive night last Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum by a score of 2-1. Forward Johnny McInnis scored the lone tally for South Carolina in the second period, while goaltender Parker Milner made 22 saves in the contest. McInnis opened the scoring at 8:49 of the middle period, wristing a puck past Vladar from the high slot to give South Carolina a 1-0 edge. The forward, who had just missed an open opportunity on his previous shift, made good on his next opportunity with assists from forwards Kelly Zajac and Steven Whitney. Atlanta evened the game at 1-1 when Derek Nesbitt converted on the power play at 14:08 of the second. Phil Lane got credit for the game-winner for the Gladiators with assists from Alex Gacek and Ben Danford at 3:20 of the extra period. Gladiators Skate Past Stingrays In OT The Atlanta Gladiators scored in the final minute of the third period to force overtime and won the game with a power play goal at 2:04 of the extra session to defeat the South Carolina Stingrays by a final score of 3-2 last Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Nick Johnson and Joe Devin provided goals for the Stingrays in the contest, while goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 29 saves for South Carolina in the loss. the teams entered the third in a 1-1 deadlock before Joe Devin put South Carolina on top 2-1 with his fourth goal of the season just seven seconds into a power play advantage.
