A Higher Cause
Building a Safety Culture
Church fire!! Round up the buckets and the ( AmQuip ) cranes. As a horrific fire tore through two steeples at a historic church near the University of Cincinnati the phones were a buzz at AmQuip Crane. AmQuip partnering with O’Rourke Wrecking successfully dismantled any and all harmful debris from the fire ravaged steeples. It took less than 52 hours from phone call to completion and utilized a 70 ton HT and a 175 ton AT to complete all man basket and wrecking work. Since the completion AmQuip has been back four times to successfully place the temporary tops to prevent any further weather related damage to the church.
High-performing organizations are led by managers who inspire their employees to set and reach their goals. Managers must lead as well as manage safety within their area of influence. Ultimately, the only acceptable goal for injuries is ZERO, however, you cannot magically expect our organization to go from having injuries and incidents to ZERO. To get there, managers must work to build a shared vision of zero accidents as the company’s safety goal, and must develop a culture in which all employees are engaged to share and communicate the path of shared learning toward that goal.

TWIC ID CARD CRITICAL INFORMATION What is TWIC? TWIC stand for Transportation Worker Identification Credential. It is a common identification credential for all personnel requiring unescorted access to secure areas of MTSA-regulated facilities and vessels, and all mariners holding Coast Guard-issued credentials. These locations include the refineries, petrochemical and power generating facilities along our nation’s rivers. TSA will issue workers a tamper-resistant "Smart Card" containing the worker's biometric (fingerprint template) to allow for a positive link between the card itself and the individual. Who needs a TWIC? • Employees of these facilities, contractors ,vendors, USCG credentialed merchant mariners, longshoremen, truck drivers and others that require unescorted access to secure / restricted areas. When will TWIC begin? • Enrollment has begun. For more information you can visit www.tsa.gov/twic. Where to apply / enroll for a TWIC • TSA will use fixed credentialing centers to make the enrollment process as effective as possible. • Pre-enrollment is encouraged to save time. This can be done via internet, www.tsa.gov/twic or telephone, 1-866-DHS-TWIC. • After individual pre-enrolls, they set up a time to go to an enrollment center for ID photos, fingerprinting and providing identification documents required.

Human Resource News HR is moving quickly into 2008 with lots of activity! I was very pleased that in January, we doubled the size of the HR Department. There are now two of us as Kelly Boland joined Human Resources as HR Assistant to help support this growing company. You’ve probably noticed we’ve been hiring new employees as AmQuip continues to be extremely busy. It’s a wonderful challenge having high recruiting needs during this ‘dip’ in the market. We are in a strong position to be selective and hire great candidates by offering steady work along with competitive benefits that engage new employees from Day One. In the first quarter of ’08, HR updated the PTO and Attendance Policies, added optional Supplemental Life Insurance benefits, visited the AL, TN and OH sites to meet employees and tour facilities, and recently selected an HR system that will improve recordkeeping for the company and improve communications to our employees. This system will also provide some direct internet access between you and our benefits carriers to provide realtime access to information. In addition to theses activities, we announced early in March that we are changing our 401k Retirement Plan administrators and fund advisors. There will be meetings and communications over the next few months about the 401k Savings Plan and what services are available to help you save and plan for retirement. Watch for more news on this project. - Rita Kopp
