Improved K Mix GP Mortar K Mix GP Mortar is a general-purpose mortar designed for laying blocks or bricks. It can be used as a scratch coat plaster for internal and external work, as bedding for pavia and as a rubbed up finish suitable for external painting. In January we improved it by: • • • •
Enhancing handling properties Improving spray capability Making it easier to float / sponge finish Making it more user friendly
Recently K Mix GP Mortar was specified as an internal basecoat plaster for a large housing development of 36 houses in Balgriffin, Co Dublin. It was chosen because it contains air-entraining agents, which provide excellent workability. It has the ability to seal blockwork to prevent air leakage.

G -LIME Plant Opens In March we were delighted to welcome customers from all over the province to the opening of our new G-Lime facility here in Larne. We relocated the plant from Co. Fermanagh during 2014 as part of our continued growth strategy. G-Lime granulated lime is a unique fast acting lime soil conditioner; it is specially formulated to help manage soil pH improving soil fertility whilst optimising crop and grass performance. Our G-Lime distribution partner is John Thompson & Sons Ltd, who invited their customers along to the information day. The day proved to be a great success and the biggest customer event we have had at Kilwaughter. G-Lime was showcased through an insightful features and benefits presentation, product control testing in our advanced laboratory and a tour around the newly commissioned G-Lime plant. K Rend exhibit at NEC in March In March we exhibited at the 3 day Homebuilding and Renovating Show at the NEC, Birmingham. The busy show had a footfall from architects, home owners, industry professionals and various businesses. From interior design to exterior landscaping, roofing to flooring, restoration to new-builds, the Homebuilding & Renovating Show had it all. This exclusive show provided the opportunity to discuss projects with celebrity experts Charlie Luxton and Julia

Self Build Belfast K Rend exhibited at Self Build & Improve Your Home Show in February at the Kings Hall, Belfast; which showcased 200 suppliers over 3 days. A8 Upgrade
News
Kilwaughter supplies 1000 tonne of Asphalt Filler Kilwaughter supplied 1000 tonne of asphalt filler to the £130m A8 upgrade, the principal route from Belfast to the major sea port of Larne where a large percentage of Northern Irelands freight arrives and departs. The A8 runs from the M2 at Glengormley to Larne and is part of the European Route E01. The carriageway is being built to the second highest standard for an all-purpose road consisting of two lanes in each direction and no breaks in the central reservation. The average traffic level before the double lane improvement project commenced was 18,000 vehicles per day, close to the upper limit for a singlecarriageway road. The use of asphalt filler will reduce noise pollution and increase safety and comfort for drivers.

Nautical K Rend K Rend Chosen For Marine Themed Landscape With A Modern Twist David Windram of ‘Special Integrity Landscape Services’ was given the task of transforming the surroundings of this picturesque modern home, ‘High Tide’ with the help of K Rend, into a modern maritime enclosure. The desired nautical theme was a personal preference of the homeowners who wished for a modern approach to be taken, with subliminal lines to echo a boat themed lanscape surrounding their home. K Rend Silicone FT, Polar White & Pewter Grey were applied to the bespoke curves used on the retaining walls of the boat themed surroundings, portraying waves. The homeowners and local residents are delighted with the finish in East Berwickshire.

Moving up the ranks In April we launched K Rend onto Wikipedia, creating it’s own page on the free online encyclopaedia. Wikipedia is the sixth most used website in the world with over 34 million published articles and 475 million estimated unique monthly users. After plying the product away from this beloved pet, the customer was delighted with his newly rendered home. The applicator that sent us the photo is now thinking about branching out. Charity Charity We volunteer at Good Morning Larne Kilwaughter is delighted to support (through volunteering) the Good Morning Larne scheme – a free, community based telephone support service targeting older and more vulnerable people living within the borough of Larne. The aim of the service is to reduce loneliness, isolation and the fear of crime, but also ensure peace of mind to family members alerting them if the call has been answered or not. Kilwaughter Sponsor NI Hospice Walk For the eleventh year Kilwaughter sponsors the NI Hospice Walk - helping the local charity to care for those living with life-limiting illnesses in Northern Ireland. The annual Hospice Walk took place on Saturday 28th March and saw hundreds of people walking along the coast to support the cause.

This year Northern Ireland Hospice aimed to raise funds of £110,000 from the event, which will be used to support the provision of hospice care services for people living with terminal illnesses as well as offering support to their families. School Visits As part of our CSR initiative, every year we open our doors and welcome pupils from local primary and secondary schools. During April we welcomed 2 schools to site, Larne High School’s Double Award GCSE Science class, followed by Larne Grammar School’s GCSE Applied Science pupils the week after. The visit is especially important in the run up to the summer break as it highlights the dangers of entering a quarry unsupervised. We work in partnership with Quarry Products Association NI (QPANI) to present the ‘Stay Safe…Stay Out’ campaign message to all children who visit our site. Supporting St. MacNissi’s in the Den We were delighted to support St MacNissi’s Primary School, Larne in their annual ‘Dragons Den’. Marketing Co-ordinator Carolyn McFall went along to listen to the pitches from 5 teams, made up of 6 pupils. “This was my first year in the ‘den.’ I was amazed by the high standard of 10-11 year olds delivery of their potential business ventures. The use of modern technology and teamwork to build presentations was very impressive where they composed every element of the proposal themselves. Each aspect of the product launch from budgeting to promotional material was covered and it was great to see young people with such a bright future ahead of them flourishing.”

Gareth looks after all technical sales enquiries for South East England providing on site advice and support. Off Site Gareth works closely with our HQ in Larne planning customer appointments and supplier visits maintaining the high level of service that our customers have come to expect. He also undertakes training for sales staff in our supplier branches as well as delivering Continual Professional Development seminars to architects, ensuring they are kept up to date with changes in the industry. He attends exhibitions, trade shows and merchant breakfast mornings to answer queries from tradesmen and other professionals in the industry.
