Overview: The Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for the day-to-day implementation of policies and procedures within the accounting department including financial reporting for CHH owned buildings (non-HUD). The Staff Accountant works closely with the Controller, Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable and Portfolio Managers. This position must maintain a high level of confidentiality. Duties and Responsibilities: • Property accountant for CHH owned buildings (non-HUD, ~ 20 buildings/500 units). • Ensure CHH accounting policies and procedures are upheld. • Handle daily import from Boston Post property management software into Abila (formerly Sage MIP) fund accounting software. • Review and reconcile rental activity as imported from Boston Post into Abila. • Review mortgage and accounts payable coding within assigned portfolio. • Post monthly recurring journal entries – allocations, prepaids, etc. • Review monthly building financial statements, analyze building operations and investigate budget variances. • Reconcile the primary CHH bank account, reserve account and payroll account (encompassing the entire portfolio’s activity) and approximately 5 other bank accounts with minimal activity. • Prepare financial portion of annual City reports. • Prepare journal entries for miscellaneous cash receipts, reconciling and closing entries. • Process reserve withdrawals. • Review and approve tenant security deposit refunds for portfolio. • Prepare monthly security deposit bank transfer requests. • Prepare quarterly NNN billings for approximately 10 commercial tenant spaces. • Assist with audit prep/schedules. • Track fixed assets and post depreciation. • Cross train in other accounting functions to provide back up as needed (payroll or A/P). • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: • AA in Accounting plus 2-5 years relevant work experience in accounting, or; BA in Accounting plus 1 year relevant work experience in accounting, or; relevant experience in accounting/full charge bookkeeping in a similar environment may be considered as a substitute for education. • Standard business English, strong oral and written communication skills. • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel and Outlook). • Able to communicate effectively with people of diverse personalities, cultures and communication styles. • Able to work with a complex chart of accounts including inter-fund receivables/payables. • Able to troubleshoot and problem solve independently. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in affordable housing, property management accounting or non-profit accounting. • Experience with Abila (formerly Sage MIP) fund accounting software. • Experience with Boston Post property management software.
