NYU may grant standardized testing exemptions to students who live in countries
where a national college entrance examination has not been approved to meet
our ... information we receive in the form of academic transcripts and letters.
Standardized Testing Requirement Exemption Request As part of NYU’s application, all applicants must submit results from a “Standardized Exam,” which can consist of one of the widely available and accepted traditional university exams (such as the SAT or ACT, please see our full list of exams), or the results of an approved national exam, which, in an applicant’s country, is an independently administered exam considered locally to signify the completion of secondary education and is used for local university entrance (see all of our approved national exam options). As with any rigorous, holistic university admissions process, we highly encourage applicants to submit one of NYU’s many available approved testing options. However, NYU may choose to grant standardized testing exemptions to applicants who live in countries where their national college entrance examination has not been approved to meet our admission requirements. If you are from a country without an approved national exam and you cannot take one of the traditional university exams, you may choose to submit this Standardized Testing Exemption Request and any additional supporting evidence. Required components of an exemption request include: 1.
A detailed explanation as to why you are unable to submit results from one of our accepted standardized tests.
2.
If financial hardship is a reason, please then include detailed evidence of your financial circumstances that would prevent you from taking one of the previously mentioned American university exams. Such evidence could include you/your family’s annual income, you/your family’s annual expenses, the cost of taking such one of the approved exams, any attendant transportation costs to travel to take this exam, and any other detailed evidence that would clarify your situation.
3.
If available, a detailed description of the locally available university entrance exam option that NYU has not yet approved and evidence of how you would perform on this local exam.
4.
Detailed evidence of any outstanding academic accomplishments you have received that you would like us to consider in place of an approved exam. This could be in the form of certificates, award notifications, examination scores, competition results, etc. in such areas as literature; humanities; math; science; foreign language; and/or the arts.
