simalube IMPULSE in operation at Nordic Sugar. By using simalube, the Nordzucker Group from Sweden can rely on a constant, efficient lubrication solution. The sugar factory Nordic Sugar Örtofta in Eslöv, Sweden, produces around 382,000 tons of sugar per season. From September to February, 24,000 tons of sugar beets are delivered each day, which is roughly equal to 600 lorry loads. To reach the planned production volume, the machines have to be operated around the clock all week long. The machines are consequently exposed to extreme stress and any breakdown would have serious consequences. The loss in production and profits would be too great. For this reason, proper, efficient maintenance is crucial to prevent any machine breakdown.
«Since installing simalube, it has no longer been necessary to replace damaged bearings.» The problem In the past, the bearings of the centrifuges were lubricated manually twice a week. This was very time-consuming and kept the maintenance staff from doing other important jobs. In addition, manual lubrication meant that the machines were not supplied with lubricant constantly or in the right amount. This continuous use of inadequately lubricated machines eventually caused damage to the centrifuge bearings. As a result, 3–5 bearings had to be replaced each season, at a cost of 5,000 Euros per replacement. It also created huge disruptions to the production flow as each interruption lasted between 8–10 hours depending on the damage.
Due to the high counter-pressure, each of the dispensers was also fitted with a simalube IMPULSE pressure booster.

The perfect solution Philip Klasen, a maintenance technician at Nordic Sugar Örtofta, was very dissatisfied due to the frequent damages to bearings and production downtimes. The simalube automatic lubricator proposed by Michael Andersson, a salesman of NOMO Kullager AB, was the perfect solution, as it guarantees automatic, constant lubrication with just the right amount of lubricant over a period of 1–12 months and totally cuts out the need for manual lubrication, saving countless hours of maintenance work. Six centrifuges were each fitted with two 250ml simalube lubricators, with a dispensing cycle of one month. Due to the strong counter-pressure caused by the high torque, each dispenser was also fitted with a simalube IMPULSE pressure booster. Philip Klasen is really impressed: “With the simalube lubrication system we have saved a lot of time and money. We have been able to greatly increase our production, and thanks to the help of Michael Andersson and simatec we have been able to reduce costs and gain time”. The good results with simalube are evident. Since installing the automatic lubricators, two seasons have passed without any need for the replacement of bearings at Nordic Sugar Örtofta. For the moment, Nordic Sugar Örtofta has installed around 120 simalube lubricators. In summer 2018, renovation work will be carried out and new equipment worth around 150 million Euros will be installed. In the future, Nordic Sugar Örtofta plans to use the simalube lubricators throughout the factory to guarantee optimal lubrication.
