Portsmouth Public Schools 2017 Summer School Information Norcom High School General Information High school summer classes will begin at I. C. Norcom High School on Monday, June 26, 2017. Summer school ends on Thursday, August 10, 2017. Classes will not meet on Fridays during the 2017 summer session. Regulations School division regulations regarding behavior, discipline, and attendance apply to all summer school students. Students who present discipline problems in the classroom, in the school facility, on the school grounds, or on the school bus, will not be permitted to continue in attendance. A student who is dismissed for disciplinary reasons will not be entitled to any refund. Attendance In order to earn credit for courses taken in summer school, a student may not miss more than four days during the summer session. If a student is dropped for poor attendance, no refund of tuition will be given. Students will not be excused for conventions, camps, conferences or vacations. Daily Schedule For new subject classes: 7:15 a.m. - 12:20 p.m.
Report Cards Report cards will be issued on July 7, 21, August 4, and August 12.
Transportation Limited school bus transportation will be provided for summer school students. A bus schedule will be published separately and provided to students prior to the start of summer school. Non-Portsmouth Public School Students Students who are not residents of Portsmouth may register for new subjects only. Residents of Portsmouth who do not attend Portsmouth Public Schools may register for new or repeat courses on a space available basis only. Registration will be held on June 21, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Non-Portsmouth Public School students must present a signed letter on official school letterhead stating the specific course to be taken and the grade level of the course. Presentation of a permission letter is not a guarantee of admission.
For repeat subject classes: 7:15 – 9:45 a.m. 9:50 a.m. – 12:20 p.m.

Course Load Students may enroll in a maximum of one new course or two repeat courses.
Payment in full is due at the time of registration. Refunds
A request for a refund must be made by Thursday, July 6, 2017. If a class is canceled for any reason, a refund will be issued. The original receipt must accompany any refund request. How to Register Early registration for Portsmouth Public School students will be held in each high school from May 3 – 31, 2017. Students should contact their guidance counselors for information. General registration will be held at I. C. Norcom High School from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on June 21, 2017. The student’s home school makes the final decision on student eligibility for a repeat course or a new course. Seniors and Graduation Seniors who will be eligible for graduation in summer school must present the completed Application for Graduation and Diploma at the time of summer school registration. Graduation will be held on August 10, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

*English 9, English 10, English 12, Government, and Earth Science II/Oceanography will be taught using an on-line instructional delivery. Students will be required to attend class at Norcom High School part of the time, but will receive computer-based instruction. At other times, students will be allowed to work from home. A teacher will be present in the classroom at all times to facilitate instruction and provide assistance to students on an individual basis as needed.
SOL Testing Schedule The summer administration of the SOL Writing test will take place during the week of July 10 – 13, 2017. The SOL end-of-course tests will be administered during the week of July 31 – August 3, 2017.
