Supply Chain Management in Asia-Pacific Submission Deadline: January 15, 2014

From the supply chain perspective, the Asia Pacific region includes the major economies and more populous nations in a triangular zone between Japan and Korea in the North, Australasia in the South East and Pakistan at the Western boundary. Approximately 70 percent of the world’s container traffic passed through ports in the Asia Pacific region. Most Asia Pacific businesses reach their markets through complex supply chains, often comprising many trading partners and a variety of different paths to market. Supply chains in the Asia Pacific region are often significantly more difficult to manage than in many other parts of the world. Many of the businesses in Asia/Pacific are very dependent on the export markets in the U.S. and Europe, and have suffered as a result. Asia Pacific has more varied customer demands than anywhere else on earth. How do businesses best serve a sprawling geography with unique national cultures, different languages and scripts, extremes of economic development, regulatory diversity, and customers from hypermarkets to street stalls? How do businesses cope with the challenges of this complexity? This special issue of the Supply Chain Forum: an International Journal is devoted to publishing new and significant results related to Asia-Pacific that can be applied in supply chains and open environments subject to great uncertainty; system planning, control and optimization under uncertain environment; and best practices in adopting information technology.
