Virgin Money London Marathon Supporter Cheer Pack
Cheering the runners to the finish line! Thank you so much for being part of our runner’s experience, journey, and we promise that the Virgin Money London Marathon will be a magical day for you all!
As a supporter on the day of the London Marathon, you will play a vital role in ensuring all of our runners complete the challenge of a lifetime. There is nothing more motivating than hearing the crowds cheering and encouraging them through the demanding miles. We want to make sure that every single one of our runners feels motivated by our cheer points and that we support every step they take in the world’s greatest marathon!
What to expect on the day: The Virgin Money London Marathon is the biggest and greatest sporting event in the UK. Millions of people watch from the comfort of their homes, while thousands more come out and line the streets of London creating a festival of celebration for all to enjoy! To guarantee this is a memorable and incredible experience for all of our runners, we need YOU to make as much noise as possible by clapping, singing and cheering when our runners race past. You may even have a starring moment on our Megaphone! Along the route we will have two official Pancreatic Cancer UK cheer points. You will be given a supporter t-shirt and clapper to make as much noise as possible. There are also plenty of pom poms and purple wigs to go round too. Please bring your loudest, proudest and toughest voices to our cheer points to make sure we create a huge presence.

What to wear & bring You are a huge part of the team so please show everyone by wearing your Pancreatic Cancer UK supporter t-shirt. Your Marathon runner will be able to pick up a t-shirt and clappers for you at the London Marathon Expo, but just in case you miss out, we will have a limited amount of t-shirts at our cheer points. Remember the British weather is changeable so please prepare for all weather conditions. Wear practical and comfortable shoes and bring a rucksack with wet weather gear just in case there is a downpour. Don’t forget your sun cream in case the sun is shining too! Stay hydrated with plenty of water on the day and bring food as the stalls do get busy around London. Plan in advance your journey and how you intend to travel around London on the marathon day. Follow the this link www.tfl.gov.uk to the TFL website where you can see more information on planned station closures and make sure your maps to hand.

Mile 13.5 - Cheer point 1 a 10 minute walk from Shadwell Station. A great place to see your runners twice. The runners will pass along The Highway twice and so will run past at Mile 13.5 and 22, it is a point where the runners will see others on the other side of the road who are 9 miles ahead. So it is a really key place to give our runners the boost they need.

At the start of the London Marathon we will be having a team photo in Greenwich Park. The Team photo will take place at 8.45am. Meet at Greenwich park General James Wolfe Statue, SE10 8XJ. You can head to your start line from there. You can walk to the start line within 10-20 minutes, it all depends on your starting zone. We don’t recommend that supporters come to Greenwich Park as entry is often restricted to runners.

The distance between the two cheer points: You can easily travel between our two cheer points. Once your runner has passed The Highway, Mile 13.5 you can head to our cheer point at Tower Hill, Mile 23. It will take you around 20 minutes to get there. If you go onto the DLR at Shadwell and go one stop to Tower Gateway, than you can walk to the cheer point in 5 minutes. Come out of Tower Gateway and turn right toward Tower Hill Station. Then simply follow the instructions above from Tower Hill station. Once your runner has passed Tower Hill, make your way to the Post-Race Reception at Ruby Blue in Leicester Square to meet your runner there. Call us on 07776 768 766 if you have any problems.
Shout! Scream! Support our team!
Post-Race Reception information: Ruby Blue The Finish As the finish line and ‘Runner meet and greet area’ gets very busy, we would HIGHLY recommend that you meet with your runner at our Post-Race Reception. By meeting at Ruby Blue, it will hopefully take away the stress of having to walk around looking for your loved ones in the crowds. If you decide to meet them at the end, please do take note of the Virgin Money London Marathon’s advice in the marathon News Magazine which importantly tells you not to cause any congestion. We’ve also experienced very heavy traffic on mobile phone networks so please don’t rely on your mobile phones at this time. To help escort runners to our Post-Race Reception and carry their bags, we will have shuttle walkers at the finish area wearing our supporter t-shirt with Pancreatic Cancer UK on the front, so please do keep an eye out. Ruby Blue is a 30 second walk from Leicester Square Station, a 4 minute walk from Piccadilly Circus, 7 minute from Covent Garden, 7 minutes from Trafalgar Square, and 8 minute walk from Charing Cross station and the finish line. Please do join us at our special Post-Race Reception, where you can meet your runner and celebrate their fantastic success! While they are having a lovely massage; you can sit back, relax and have some light snacks we will be providing. At Ruby Blue, the runners will be able to have a massage, hot food and a freshen up. We will be providing tea, coffee, soft drinks and pastries for supporters. There is also a bar and limited menu you can order and pay from.
