S. Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal is the roaming ambassador for the organization, Roko Cancer, which was founded by Mr. A.P.S. Chawla. Mr. Dhaliwal says that he has dedicated his life to the detection and treatment of cancer. He has also donated his own property in his village to open a school that provides free education to poor girls. He also helps those girls to learn skills so that they can be independent and live a dignified life. Roko Cancer has arranged some 1,450 camps so far in Punjab, and have checked some 300,000 ladies for breast cancer. Some 3,800 mammographies have been performed, which resulted in 2,463 life-saving single mastectomies having to be performed, and 467 ladies with advanced cancer have been adopted by Mr. Dhaliwal’s organisation. At the age of 45, Mr. Dhaliwal was the youngest Asian to receive the Humanitarian Award in the Houses of Parliament by William Hague MP in 2010. He also received the Gadri Baba Kamagatamaru Award and the Bhagat Puran Singh Award in Vancouver in 2011. In 2012, he won the Bhai Ghanaya Award in Toronto, the Shiv Kumar Batalvi Award in London in 2013, and Punjab da Masiha Award by Asian Members of Parliament in 2013. He has been instrumental in opening a 480-bed hospital for cancer patients in Moga district, thus saving the people of Punjab from traveling to Bikaner – in the neighbouring state of Rajasthan – for cancer treatment. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has recently commented that Mr. Dhaliwal has done in a short period of time what the Punjab government could not do in so many years.
