Temple University goalkeeper, Maddie Lillock is the Philafieldhockey.com Rookie of the Week. After totaling 19 saves in two games for Temple field hockey, Lilliock was named the Big East Conference Freshman of the Week. The honor is the first league award for Lilliock, who has been impressive in her debut campaign with the Owls. The rookie tied her season-high 11 saves in a close, 3-2, loss to Providence on Friday, Sept. 16 in the Owls' Big East opener. She added eight more saves against Monmouth on Sunday in another one-goal loss for Temple. With 71 saves this season, Lilliock leads all players in the Big East, while her 8.88 saves per game rank fifth among all goalkeepers in NCAA Division I. Lilliock has topped double-digits in saves three times in eight games, and has a 69.6 save percentage for the season. “Maddie has been consistent for us all year in goal. Not only are her reactions on the ball explosive, but her goalkeeping IQ continues to get higher and higher through every training opportunity. She's a true student of the game. She's accountable, encompasses an elite level work ethic and her desire to be the best she can be is what makes her a true competitork,” said Marybeth Freeman, Temple’s Head Coach. Freeman noted that Lilliock thrives in challenging situations. “Fresh out of preseason, Maddie found herself competing against some of the top teams in the country. The experiences she is garnering now will prove beneficial as we move through the rest of the season, and during the rest of her time here at Temple. I'm very proud of how Maddie has represented herself, our program and University in just the short period of time she has been here. It speaks to her character and of course, we're thrilled she's an Owl.”
