Tennessee Educator Fellowship The Tennessee Educator Fellowship brings together a diverse group of educators from across the state who are passionate about their profession and student-focused education policy. The fellowship empowers participating educators to weigh in on policy conversations at the state and local level that affect them personally, their schools, and their students. Fellows serve as student-focused advocates across the state and in their own regions as Tennessee continues the work of improving educational outcomes for all students. SCORE will select approximately 50 Tennessee public school teachers, librarians, and guidance counselors to serve one-year terms. The Fellows will learn about, reflect upon, inform, and advocate for policies, practices, and systems that impact educator effectiveness and student achievement while continuing in their roles during the 2017-18 school year. Fellows cultivate and complete advocacy activities in support of student-focused priorities. Examples include speaking at public forums, networking with educators around education issues, meeting with policymakers, and writing advocacy pieces. Fellows will be chosen from varying subjects, grade levels, and geographic regions across Tennessee. Each Fellow will be awarded a stipend for their participation.

Why Become a Fellow?

Misty Ayers-Miranda Nashville “Throughout my personal advocacy journey during the fellowship, I have found a goldmine of resources and support through SCORE. Not only have they created networking opportunities in order to advance my cause, but team members have helped guide and cultivate my personal plan throughout the experience.”

Tim Fariss Warren County “As a SCORE Tennessee Educator Fellow, I learned that not only does my voice matter to policymakers in Tennessee, but that they are eager to hear what I have to say. I feel that I have my finger on the pulse of education action in Tennessee. It is an opportunity unlike any other I have experienced in my 28 year career.”

Erin Glenn Hamilton County “My greatest takeaway from the fellowship is the power I’ve discovered from teacher voice. Who better to discuss the realities, needs, and direction of future policy than those in the classroom? The Tennessee Educator Fellowship has given me both the resources and support to do just that.”

Make a difference in your school, community, and state. “Tennessee Educator Fellows learn how to engage in essential education conversations with different stakeholders in our community. Our fellow saw a growing need in Sullivan County to engage parents in timely and relevant conversations about pressing education priorities—literacy, assessments, and college and career readiness—that will make a difference for our students. She was also confident in sharing her voice with our Board of Education and diligent in researching her areas of student-focused advocacy.” – Evelyn Rafalowski, Director of Schools, Sullivan County Schools
