Terry Sheldrake - TNZ nomination to the ITU Executive My name is Terry Sheldrake and I am standing for a position on the ITU Executive Board with the support of my national Federation Triathlon New Zealand. My involvement in triathlon commenced in NZ in 1982 both as a participant and an administrator. Since those early days my involvement has increased significantly to where triathlon is not only my passion but a major part of my life. My experience spans event delivery worldwide for multiple race types and age groups, technical expertise, seminars, triathlon management and advocacy. Not conclusive yet some highlights of my triathlon involvement and achievements: • • • • • • •

Have attended every ITU World Triathlon Championship event and congress since 1994. A life Member, past President and CEO of Triathlon New Zealand. A past Oceania ITU Regional Representative Race Director of the 2003 Queenstown NZ ITU World Championships. Currently an ITU Executive Board member elected in Madrid 2008. Currently the ITU Sport Development coordinator for Oceania. Race Director of the largest triathlon series in the world “Weet-Bix tryathlon NZ” is for children 7-15 years of age. Having managed (and continue to manage) consecutively 107 of these events over the past 12 years. In 2012 over 19,000 participated in this event. Level 3 ITU qualified technical official and ITU technical facilitator. Officiated at ITU events around the world this has included World Championships, World Cup events, Common Wealth Games and Olympic Games. Competition Manager for ITU World Cup triathlon events in New Plymouth (NZ) 2005, 2006, 2008. Directed Continental Championship Cup events in NZ (Gisborne) 2000 & (Queenstown) 2002. I continue to direct and officiate at numerous triathlon events within New Zealand and around the world. I am the Competition Manager for the 2012 ITU Auckland World Championships.
In my private life with my wife Kathy we run our own Event Management Company specialising in triathlon events. Goals: My key focus if re elected to the ITU Executive Board is to further promote and advocate for those at an entry level especially our youth as they are our future. Further to identify new initiatives and opportunities that our sport can bring to developing nations, individuals and communities around the world, yet also growing age group participation and Elite events. Vision: My vision is to seek opportunities so that anyone regardless of age or race can experience triathlon no matter where they live. It is important to me that the Executive Board works with a strong governance ethic and in a collaborative transparent way. I know of no other candidate standing for the ITU Executive Board that has an equivalent triathlon delivery/involvement curriculum vitae.
