THE BIRTH OF OUR SAVIOR Luke 2:10-11 “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Angels came from Heaven to proclaim that the Savior of the world was born. The prophesy of Isaiah 9:6 had come to pass. The Savior was born, Heaven was celebrating and the angels rejoiced at the fact that redemption from sin was being made available to all mankind. Wise men and shepherds came to worship before the newborn king. The shepherds worshiped the Savior while the wise men (who were not astrologers or magicians, but God-fearing men) brought their gifts to the baby Jesus. You see, Jesus is not only the Messiah- the Savior of the world, but He is also the King of Kings. They brought Him these gifts– first was gold, for His royalty as King. Next was frankincense, for He is our High Priest, that ever lives to make intercession for His people. Last was myrrh, which was a spice that they would use to embalm dead people back in that time. This represented that Jesus came to die, in order to redeem mankind back to Himself. All of mankind owed a debt we could not pay. The blood of bulls and goats was not sufficient. Sin had increased and had taken on a religious form, creating deception and arrogance in the people. Therefore, we needed something more than an atonement, which means “a covering.”
We needed sin to be purged and removed, which required a greater sacrifice. It was going to take Jesus’ sacrifice, His perfect blood had to be shed for the remission of our sins. Hebrews 9:22 reads, “and without shedding of blood is no remission.” Hebrews 10:5-6 explains, “Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, Sacrifice and offering you desired not, but a body have you prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you have had no pleasure.” Jesus was born to die for our sins, He is the “Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.” (John 1:29) This innocent baby had a death sentence on His life from day one. His blood was pure, as it was not contaminated with Adam’s DNA, and He also didn’t have a biological father. Mary was impregnated when the Holy Ghost came upon her, and at the appointed time, Jesus was born as the Savior of the world. I have heard this message for many years, and every year I am touched and reminded, “Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) Its not about Santa, reindeers or presentsthese things may distract us from the real meaning of Christmas, which is the birth of our Savior. This year, determine in your heart that you will take in the full meaning of Christmas, and allow the Holy Spirit to use you as your share your faith with others. In Christ Always, Pastor Juan Salinas
