Time to say thank you to our volunteers Volunteers’ Week 1 – 7 June 2017 NHS Ayrshire & Arran is teaming up with thousands of charities and organisations to celebrate the vital contribution made by volunteers across Scotland during Volunteers’ Week (1 – 7 June 2017).
Volunteers are vital to the strength and vitality of Scottish society, with their work valued at £2.6 billion every year. Recent research found that Scotland’s young people are particularly engaged, with 52 per cent taking part - nearly double the adult figure of 27 per cent (information from www.volunteerscotland.net).
Volunteering is the ‘golden thread’ running through local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole. Whether working to improve the local environment, spending time with people who need help, or providing other kinds of essential services and support, the efforts made by volunteers make an invaluable difference to the lives of people and communities everywhere.
We have a number of volunteer roles across NHS Ayrshire & Arran, and we are currently looking for ward volunteers for our acute hospital sites.
Andrew Moore, Assistant Nurse Director - Quality Improvement and Governance, explains: “Without doubt, our volunteers really are a ‘golden thread’ within our organisation. The commitment, dedication and compassion they show is inspirational. Our volunteers are happily giving their time and energy to people to whom a friendly face, a listening ear and a helping hand means a great deal.

“On behalf of the organisation, I would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who gives us their time.
“We encourage people age 17 years and over to get involved and give it a go. Full training and support is given.”
This summer, we are making sure our volunteers know just how much we appreciate them by sharing all of the wonderful feedback we get from our staff members about them on social media. Look out on Facebook and Twitter for our #goldenthread posts. Feel free to show your own appreciation and experiences by using the #goldenthread hashtag.
