For games Septebmer 2 – 4, 2016 (Week 1)
The Neumann University field hockey team is our Team of the Week. The Knights, a Division III program and member of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), are off to a fantastic 2016 season, posting a 2-0 record on the week including an overtime win versus Goucher College (3-2) on the road and a 4-2 victory over Delaware Valley University at home. Neumann stands with Immaculata and Ursinus as the only unbeaten college teams in the Philadelphia area. The team finished in Philafieldhockey.com’s College Stat Leades’ Top-10 in all team categories: 1st in record leaders (2-0-0), 1st in average goals per game (3.50) and 6th in average goals allowed (2.00). In addition, Neumann players earned Top-10 spots in all but one of the Stat Leaders for individual players (posted last Sunday.) Julia Mustin (soph./Mount Saint Joseph’s) ties for 1st in average goals per game (1.50); senior Jessica Harrell is #1 in average assists per game (1.5) and average points per game (3.50). Harrell was also named the CSCA Player of the Week for her breakout performance. In addition, Colleen Hoy (So./Coatesville High School) lands third in average game winners with .50 and freshman goalkeeper, Caitlyn Johnson (Ridley High School) is 8th among Phila-area goalies with a save percentage of .733. Johnson was also named to the All-CSAC Honor Roll. There’s a long road ahead, but the Knights have not posted a 2-0 season opening weekend in more than fourteen years. Interesting to note: nine of the Neumann Knights hail from Phila-area high schools.
