โ€œThe Price of Snow: Albedo Valuation and a Case Study for Forest Managementโ€ Supplementary Material David A. Lutz and Richard B. Howarth The FACT model To simulate forests within the White Mountain National Forest (WMNF), we relied upon the FACT model, which is described in detail in Gutrich and Howarth (2007) and Lutz and Howarth (2014). The FACT model simulates timber volume, carbon storage, and albedo radiative forcing of a forest stand on a yearly time step. It then calculates the net present value of each of these three ecosystem services. FACT simulates the growth of a forest stand based on a set of equations that link forest stand properties to total stand biomass and timber volume (Gutrich and Howarth, 2007; Lutz and Howarth, 2014). Annual growth of a forest stand is based on the relationship between stand age and timber volume. Data to generate the equation describing this relationship are based on Forest Inventory and Analysis stand data from the study stand in question (Table 1 in the main manuscript) which is reported through FIA Datamart (http://apps.fs.fed.us/fiadbdownloads/datamart.html). Timber volume is calculated over time as: ๐‘‰(๐‘ ) = {๐›ผ0 (1 โˆ’

(1 โˆ’ ๐›ผ1 )(๐‘ โˆ’๐›ผ2 ) ) ๐‘ โ‰ฅ๐›ผ2 ๐‘
