FLORIDA SENDS RECOVERY PERSONNEL TO VIRGINIA ~ Seven from across the state to work with VA managers on Isabel relief efforts ~
TALLAHASSEE- Florida is sending seven additional state and local emergency management professionals to Virginia and greater Washington, D.C. to augment recovery teams in the region impacted by Hurricane Isabel. The Florida-based Operations, Logistics and Public Information personnel are fulfilling requests from the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). Personnel being dispatched to the mid-Atlantic region are: Paul Brannigan (Operations Officer) – Florida Department of Health Mark Tobert (Operations Officer) - Hernando Co. “We continue to identify personnel statewide that are ready to respond as needed,” said Craig Fugate, director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the State Emergency Response Team (SERT). Last week Florida sent two SERT operations managers to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) headquarters in Washington, D.C. to coordinate EMAC mutual aid requests and two Individual Assistance specialists to North Carolina. To date twelve persons have been deployed on EMAC missions from Florida. Additional resources have been sent northward from the American Red Cross and state’s power utility companies. Under EMAC’s national system of mutual aid, states can request additional resources such as personnel, equipment, technical and logistical support. Formed in 1996, EMAC members include 48 states, 2 territories and the District of Columbia.
