Wanless School Focus: I can understand what I read and share my own thoughts.

Reading Main Story: The Surprise Friend The reading strategy we are working on this week is questioning. We can tell ask questions about what we don’t understand as we read *Good readers are good thinkers! We are also working on comparing (how things are alike) and contrasting (how things are different) this week.

We will be talking about the question: What characteristics make a good friend? Students will understand that... Friends come in all shapes and sizes. They are not always people, they could be different ages or even imaginary.

Spelling Please help your child study for a test Friday. This weeks words are: from blue brown play friend pretty smile glad flat write challenge words: *flounder *trumpet

Please review these words with your child. They are on our word wall with colorful frames around them.

Tier Two Words (fun words) gizzard- part of a bird’s body that helps to grind up food moist- wet expect- something you thought would happen

Math

We started Topic 18: Data and Graphs. Last week we started by reading bar and picture graphs. This week we read directions on grids and we will be using tally marks to record information then the kids will be making some of their own graphs.

Science/Social Studies We have talking about how to take care of the earth. They have learned about pollution in the the air, water, and land. We also discussed how we can reuse (to use things again in another way), reduce (use less of) and recycle (make new from old).

*Please help your child remember to get his/her library book back to school for library on Tuesday. Thank you!

We will be taking a test over how we can care for the earth. Your child will be bringing home directions for a “reuse project” in today’s folder.
