WHITE LAKE SCHOOL
Secretary Georgia Heistad Retires As many people know, Mrs. Georgia Heistad will be retiring from White Lake School this year. The whole White Lake School surprised her with a surprise party. She was so happy she cried. To start the ceremony the band played “On Wisconsin” as she walked in. Superintendent Mr. Fisher was the first to talk and bless Georgia a happy retirement. Principal Mrs. Boldig said a few words about how Georgia is such a wonderful, loving person. School board president, Scott Popelka, presented Georgia with a plaque. Brenda, Georgia’s daughter explained how Georgia is such a wonderful Mom and how much she loves all of the children at the school. Andrea Wahleithner, former student and cheerleader, represented the cheerleaders because Georgia was their coach and an awesome cheerleader. Mrs.Grall, Mrs. Hafner, and Mr. Meronk presented her with a picture of all the children and a beautiful plant to hang in her window. They also are sending her to Milwaukee for a Brewer get away. Mrs. Theisen presented for PTO/STAR. The students and staff made a video for Georgia saying their last goodbyes. Mrs. Lundgren and Angie Wickersheim helped put it together. After the ceremony there was cake from the STAR/NHS Members. We love you Georgia!! We will miss you dearly/ Come back and visit!
. . .And Now a Word from the Principal It’s hard to believe another school year has come to an end. What a wonderful year it has been watching all of the students learn and grow! As the students and staff go out to enjoy the well earned break of summer, please remember to be safe. Summer school will begin for some students on June 10th. There is a second session planned for August, but we may not have enough students to run it. If you haven’t turned in your registration, please do so ASAP! If you have, please encourage your friends to join you. I look forward to seeing all of you again in the fall. Thanks for making my first year as your principal so memorable and welcoming. Everyone have a safe and exciting summer!
Graduation for Class of 2013
Volunteer Banquet
The graduating class of 2013 held their graduation on Saturday, May 25 to a packed gym. A small but memorable class of fifteen graduating seniors filled the stage. Senior speaker Sam Straley talked about how being in a small school had many unique advantages and all of the “I coulds” that students had could easily be turned into “I wills” thanks to the support of teachers, friends, parents, and the community. Luke Wickersheim spoke next with a fun- filled speech in which he thanked Google and the internet for some of his content. He also made sure to thank the community and said that the community does good things and that imagine what all of the good things the graduates could do thanks to the community. Valedictorian Hannah Schulz gave a heart-felt speech thanking the school and community for accepting her and making her feel welcome. She also thanked her parents for all of their support. Abby Heistad, salutatorian, spoke about success and how each of the graduates could reach success. Many scholarships were then handed out followed by the senior slide show. After roses were handed to the senior’s parents, the time that all the graduates were waiting for arrived-the diplomas. There were many smiles as well as tears to fill the graduation ceremony. Congratulations and good luck to the class of 2013.
Over one hundred people filled the cafeteria for this year’s Volunteer Banquet. The theme was “Volunteers are priceless treasures,” and the tables were decorated accordingly with treasure chests, treasure, and chocolate coins. After a wonderful dinner prepared by Sue and Mary (thank you!), the school named Lisa Kubacki as the White Lake School Volunteer of the Year for all the extras that she has done volunteering her time at games, musical events, and whenever anyone needs something done. The staff from the fitness center was also thanked with a bag of goodies for all of their volunteer hours. That thanks went to Steve Vaudt, Pam Buettner, Buck Brown, and Len Schneider. Prizes were raffled off and then the wonderful evening came to a close. Mrs. Borchert’s journalism class also needs a well deserved thanks for all of their assistance setting up for the banquet and their help that evening. We could never have a volunteer banquet without the thoughtful volunteers who are always willing to assist the school. Thank you to all of you volunteers.
Senior Trip to the Dells The senior class had a fun, adventure-filled three-day trip to Wisconsin Dells. The seniors stayed at the Kalahari Resort where they enjoyed the slides at the waterpark, bowling (What? Did Mrs. Borchert really beat everyone bowling when she only bowls once a year? ), and the theme park. At the theme park, the students and Ms. Wickersheim, Mr. Meronk, and Mrs. Borchert had fun playing lazar tag, blasting monsters at the 4-D theater, roaring around in go-carts, playing mini golf, and attempting the climbing wall and ropes course. The kids went on a duck boat tour, an amphibious vehicle, where they road through the woods and then splashed into the Wisconsin River and Lake Delton. Old fashioned portraits were taken in cowboys and Native American costumes and even Chief Fuzzy Bunny (aka Luke Wickersheim) made an appearance. Dinner at the Caribbean style restaurant Marley’s was full of unique dining treats like deep-fried shark. The perfect weather and great company led to a trip that will be never forgotten by all that attended.
Senior Class of 2013 Aaron Thurber When someone asks what could you see Aaron eating for breakfast? The obvious response would be French toast sticks. Eating toast sticks is not Aaron’s most favorite activity though; he played many years in the White Lake School band. Aaron’s favorite teachers through the years consist of Mrs. Lundgren, Mr. Kizirian, and Mrs. Borchert. They have shown inspiration through Aaron’s high school career. When Aaron was not gaining knowledge from these people, he was usually just wondering the school. The end of the school year marks his favorite high school memory-his last book project. Aaron wants to attend the tech school so that he can still live in White Lake while working on computers for a living.
Brooke Reichert Brooke Reichert-the silent, the artist, the funny, andthe talented. Many of us know her to be the one who can take your breath away at the seat of a piano. Her plans for next year are to go to UW-Eau Claire for a degree in Pre-Med Radiology. She will miss her friends and family here in White Lake, especially her favorite teacher Mrs. Borchert. Her most memorable event was when she crashed her car for the first time. In ten years she sees herself happily married and just finishing school. Her favorite classes are band and choir, but she does wish she could go back and do more AP classes her senior year. Her favorite memory was this years prom and her favorite food for breakfast…toast.
Forrest Woodward The plans for Forrest after graduation depends on what job he is holding. If he would be working, he doesn’t know if he will go back to college. His favorite high school memory was when he was a freshman and sophomore year in general. As he looks back at his most memorable event in school it was the blood drives. The thing Forrest would like to redo is his attendance; he wish he wouldn’t have cut himself so short. Forrest will miss is his real friends. His favorite school activities were English and shop, and oddly enough, he ate mac and cheese for breakfast. Forrest sees himself in ten years working and driving fast car.
Abby Heistad Abby Heistad has waited her whole high school career for graduation. She will be attending UW-Stevens Point for a major in Biochemistry. Her favorite high school memory is going to all of the school dances with the girls (they had more fun anyway without dudes). One thing Abby would redo is that she would’ve gotten her main classes done so she could take more college classes. Her most memorable moment was being sick with mono and lymes disease her senior year. In ten years she will be a nutritionist working with her older sister and, hopefully, on the track to getting married. Seeing and knowing just about everyone in school is what she will miss the most. Her favorite teachers were Mr. Johnson and Mrs. Borchert. Softball was her favorite school activity. Abby will be truly missed, but we will remember her for her great personality. Good Luck, Abby!
Angel Schmidt Angel Schmidt is attending UWStevens Point and going into premed. She wants to be the person that gives pregnant ladies sonograms. Her favorite high school memory is when she became prom queen of her class. The one thing that she would redo in school is her schedule; she waited until 2nd semester of her senior year to take a full credit of gym, and she didn’t like that. For her most memorable moment, she was disappointed about getting valedictorian taken from her a month before graduation. Angel sees herself in ten years married, with a dog, a good job, and starting a family. Hopefully, her kids won’t be in too much debt from school. She will miss being so close to everyone and being in a warm, cozy atmosphere here in White Lake. She likes many teachers, but her favorites were Mrs. Borchert, Madame Radtke, and Mr. O. Her favorite activities were going to France, Florida, Sylvan Hill, and all the homecoming weeks. For breakfast this morning she had whatever Sue fed her in the morning. Angel is one of those seniors we are really going to miss. She was always nice and was willing to help you with anything you needed.
Hannah Schulz
Luke Wickersheim
Hannah Schulz’s plans for next year are going to Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to become a dermatologist. Her favorite memory was getting valedictorian in her class, SWEET! One thing that Hannah would like to redo was to take more college classes instead of classes here. Her most memorable event at WLHS was going to her junior prom. Hannah sees herself in ten years graduating and doing her residency. She miss Sam and also just screwing around. When it came time to find out Hannah’s favorite WLHS teacher, there was no contest because it was Mrs. Lundgren. Her favorite school activity was volleyball. The last question was what Hannah had for breakfast, and she had a sweet blueberry bagel, yummy. Good luck to Hannah in her future.
Luke Wickersheim’s plans for next year are attending Fox Valley Technical School to study criminal justice. His favorite high school memory was playing the last game in the old gym and the first game in the new gym. The one thing Luke would like to redo is try harder his freshman and sophomore year. Luke’s most memorable moment is running out of the locker room for the first game in the new gym and seeing the stands just packed. Luke sees himself fighting some serious crime in ten years. Luke will miss the people, teachers, and the community because of all of the support they have given him throughout his high school career. His favorite two teachers are Mr. Meronk and Mr. Kizirian. Some of Luke’s greatest memories were through sports and he encourages all kids to play at least one sport. Luke ate his biscuits and gravy this morning.
Montana Hughes Montana Hughes plans for next year are going to college and work at a job that’s in her career field. In ten years Montana plans on working in her career field and being happy. Montana’s favorite high school memory was when Tracie kicked Forrest in his naughty spot in front of the whole gym her freshman year. Montana’s memorable moment in school was when she got smacked in the forehead with a car door, and it left an egg shaped bump on her head. The one thing Montana would like to redo in school would be getting better grades her freshman year. Going on field trips were Montana’s favorite school activity. Montana will miss her friends, and Mrs. Borchert and Mrs. Lundgren the most, her favorite teachers. This morning for breakfast she had an ice cold Popsicle. Good luck!
Tracie Budd 2013 senior, Tracie Budd, is planning on working somewhere and in ten years hopes to be successful and live in a nice place. Her favorite high school memory was going to state solo and ensemble her senior year and getting a 1st. Her most memorable school event was going to Florida on a band trip. Her favorite school activities are band, choir, and pep band. If she could redo anything in school, she would change nothing because things happen, and she wouldn’t want to change it. She will miss all the friends she has made. Tracie’s favorite teachers are Mrs. Vaudt and Mrs. Borchert. For breakfast, she ate pizza.
Sam Straley Sam plans for next year are to go to UW_River Falls to study agriculture education. Her favorite high school memory was junior prom. The thing that she would redo in high school would be to have FFA in freshman year. Sam’s most memorable moment was when Mrs. Borchert walked in during the time…. Bad! In ten years she hopes to have a job, a rich husband, lots of babies, and lots of cows!!!! She will miss knowing everyone in White Lake. Her favorite teacher was Mrs. Borchert, and her favorite activities were FFA and softball. What did you eat for breakfast…..peanut butter toast.
Justin Emerich Justin Emerich is planning on working in Coloma, Wisconsin, at the Operating Engineers 139 as a diesel mechanic. His favorite high school memory is the end of school. If he had another chance in school, he would pass all his classes so he would not be rushing through his senior year to finish. The most memorable event was going outside for lunch and trying to do a backflip off the swings. His shorts got caught, and he ripped them. He sees himself in ten years running his own diesel mechanic shop. He will miss not being able to know everyone and not seeing an unfamiliar face anywhere. His favorite teachers are Mr. Kizirian and Mrs. Borchert. His favorite school activity is field trips. He does not eat breakfast anymore. Congrats, Justin.
Kris Gallagher
Cassidy Greisinger
Kris Gallagher wants to go to Fox Valley Tech for Physical ED and SPED. In ten years, Kris sees himself teaching Physical Education and coaching. Kris would like to go back and actually care about school his freshman and sophomore year. In high school. Kris’s favorite memory was being accepted to play in the WBCA All Star Game, and his favorite school activities were sports. His most memorable event in school was the first basketball game in the new gym and running out of the locker rooms. He will miss his friends, teachers, and especially sports. His favorite teachers are Mr. K, Mr. Meronk, and Mrs. Borchert. For breakfast, Kris ate cereal and milk. Good luck, Kris.
Cassidy Greisinger wants to go to the Army and, hopefully, will be done with basic and job training. Cassidy would have liked to do better in school if he could redo one thing and also play football. His most memorable thing was breaking the new window in Mr. K’s. He wants to see himself being a heavy equipment engineer in the Army in ten years. His favorite teachers were Mrs. Lundgren and Mr. K. He loved to hang out in Mrs. Lundgren’s and bug her. He likes to eat cereal for breakfast.
Austin Maddix The young Austin Maddix of White Lake will be attending UWMarinette for Business. His favorite high school memory is chess in Mrs. B’s room and most memorable moment is that “one time” in Mrs. Szemborski’s class. He has done very well in school, but he said that he wishes that he could have worked harder. In ten years he sees himself owning his own business. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Borchert and Mr. O. He also states that he will miss some of the teachers and students. His favorite school activities were football, basketball, band, math, choir and Mrs. B’s English class, of course, He ate some boarding school food for breakfast. And always remember 45 seconds. . . GO!!
The art room would like to thank community members, staff and students who have donated supplies and/or their skills and time, a gracious thanks! You been a huge help!

Blood Drive On May 15, 2013, White Lake held a blood drive. The school had a lot of walk-ins and volunteers who helped out. Students gave blood and helped out with refreshments and other patients. As head of Student Council, Mr. Chitwood planned the Blood Drive with the help of the student member council and assistance from a few other students. Over twenty people gave blood to the American Red Cross. Thank you to all volunteers and donors. You all made a difference of the lives of others.
Eagle Scout Project Completed By Brandon Helmer It’s been a long journey for me on my trail to earning my Eagle Scout badge. It’s been a very action packed and fun, seven year journey with lots of Badges to earn, outings to go on, and serving the community. The highest rank for Boy Scouts is Eagle Scout; the very last thing an eagle candidate has to do is a final project. My final project was to build a Gazebo on the shore of White Lake. There has been a lot of paper work and approvals, but it all pays off in the end and it serves the community in the process. The Gazebo is now completed and ready for the community to use, and last but not least THANK YOU to all the people that helped make this project possible by your donation of either money, tools, or time. It was greatly appreciated. I can’t thank you all enough for your donation.
Bowling The White Lake high school 7-12 grade positive incentive went to the North Star Lanes in Antigo to go bowling. The positive incentive was on May 10th. All the kids that went said they all had lots of fun and they would want to go there again. The bowling was called cyber bowling because of all the cool lights.
Babysitting Class at CMH Community Memorial Hospital will offer the Safe Sitter babysitting course for students 11 to 14 years of age Friday, June 28 and Saturday, August 24, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Over 500,000 adolescent babysitters have graduated from the medically-accurate program which instills students with confidence as they learn how, why and where injuries can happen so they can be prevented. The up-to-date curriculum provides hands-on practice in lifesaving techniques designed to prepare babysitters to act in an emergency. Babysitters also receive instruction on how a child’s age affects how to care for them, how to prevent problem behavior and how to run their own babysitting business. They also learn basic first aid, infant and child choking rescue, and CPR. To graduate from the Safe Sitter course and receive a completion card, students must pass a rigorous practical and written test that indicates their mastery of key concepts and life and safety skills. The cost of the course is $40. Call (920) 846-3444 ext. 1487 to register. Class size is limited. For more information about the Safe Sitter organization, visit www.safesitter.org.

To Trident Tribune Readers: Due to scheduling changes, I am unsure if the Trident Tribune will be run next year. At this time, I would like to thank the dedicated readers, the students who have staffed the tribune for the past four years, and, of course, White Lake School’s students and staff who have always provided us with something fun to write about. School Nurse Report School Nurse-Kathy Bowman For the month of May, I have begun to work on the end of the school year needs. A letter is sent home to have parents present to the school to obtain any medications their child has in the school office. These need to be picked up by a specific date or else we take them to the police station to be destroyed. I am currently updating the letter. There are students with health needs that will be attending different programs offered by the school during the summer so that has required some updating of Health Plans and then arranging a time to educate the appropriate staff members. This also requires a meeting between parents, staff and me. During my time at the school for the month of May, I have had a total of 11 students visit my office with a variety of needs. Kathy Bowman RN
Fire Department Open The White Lake Fire Department held an open house on May 23 and some of the Wolf River Fire Department and Auxiliary Members held an open house for the 4k-6 grades. Kids learned about how not to be afraid of fire fighters dressed in full gear as Brandon H. and Travis G. raced to see who would get fully protected in their fire gear first. The kids also liked getting to see the Troutland Rescue Squad and learning about river and lake safety. Most of the kids had an amazing time and learned a lot.
Science Fair On May 8, 2013, the White Lake Science Fair was held in the gym. There were forty-six entries. The judges were members of the community. The judges said they learned a lot and had a good time walking around looking at all the boards. The science fair committee played a big role in the whole process they arranged for all the judges to be there and planned and organized the event. All of the children had a blast spreading their knowledge and learning new things. The science fair turned out to be a fun learning experience for everyone.
Shop Help
The Art Club Fieldtrip
The Shop boys and Mr. K helped with many spring projects. They built a shed for the legion; it will be used to store the pitching machine and other equipment for the legion baseball team. They have also been working on putting some of the playground equipment back for the elementary kids; one of the biggest challenges will be putting in the basketball hoop and restoring the elephant ladder.
The Art Club went to one of the most Architect Schools in Wisconsin with the Antigo High School Art Club on May 13. The architect school that these two artistic clubs’ went to was Taliesin Architect School in Spring Green, Wisconsin. Taliesin was founded and owned by Frank Lloyd Wright, the most famous architects ever known. These two creative clubs’ had a fun time learning and walking through a piece of art.
WAOW Trip Victory Olympics On May 16, 2013, Mrs. Grall and Miss Shirley took three students, Ty, Zeke, and Maleah to the Annual Victory Olympics in Gillett, Wisconsin. The students had amazing time learning some sports that most people don’t see much these days. Some of the sports they played were archery, hockey, COPE (Team Building Games), croquet, bowling, and mini golf. After the fun day at the Victory Olympics, the group of kids, Mrs. Grall, and Miss Shirley went to the little Park, down by the river in Suring, Wisconsin. At the end of the day, everyone was tired and ready to go home, but everyone had a blast and loved it.
At the end of April, Mrs. Theisen’s 4th grade class took a trip to the WAOW television studio in Wausau and the planetarium. All of the students had a lot of fun learning. At WAOW, meteorologist Justin Lowe took them on a tour of the studio, newsroom, even showed them the green screen and teleprompter. Over at the planetarium, the students learned about constellations, including Orion’s Belt, Polaris, the dragon, lion, big and little dippers, and bears. They also learned that they are traveling at 700m.p.h. around the Earth. After the trip, the bus stopped at Culvers where the students enjoyed ice cream.
The White Lake School National Honor Society with the help of K- 6th grade helped clean up our little town of White Lake. So when you look outside your window and see clean streets, you can thank them.
The art students are creating a Laker mural on the wall in the new building.

Seatbelt Essays Seatbelt Shout out I’m not old enough to drive but what I do know is that you should always wear your seatbelt. Every day nice people die for stupid reasons. Let me tell a short story about a boy named Luke . One day he and his friends got done with football practice early. Luke’s friend asked if he wanted a ride. He said “no I’ll call my Mom.” “Now don’t be a baby and lets go” said his friend. They all got into the car. “Hey you missed my road” a boy shouted. “I know but I want to show you this jump” said the driver. He was going really fast, “stop the car and let me out” shouted a boy. The driver just went faster, Luke screamed “everyone put on your seatbelts.” About three seconds later they jumped, everyone was ok. Except Luke, he was seriously injured. He had become brain dead and passed away that day. Now you see what happened to Luke; I don’t want that happening to anyone else. This is a true story and it has a lesson behind it. The lesson is that you should always be safe in a car. Just remember when you get into the car, you are risking your life; as well as someone else’s. Just remember to be careful, and always wear your seatbelt. By Hope
VOLUME 4, ISSUE 8
When I get in the car the first thing I think of doing is to fasten my seatbelt. So when I get my driver’s license I will remember to buckle up my mom has always reminded me to buckle up since the crash my dad, my sister and I got into. We all would’ve died or have been seriously injured if we hadn’t have worn or seatbelts. Seatbelts save many people’s lives every year. In fact many teens don’t think much of a seatbelt until something really happens. Some rules for the road would be to make sure everyone has a seatbelt on, everybody is ready for the road, and that everyone is aware of the surroundings. By Morgan
Imagine you eyes just opened, you don't clearly recall what just happened. You see your car broken into pieces. Your door is across the road. Then you realize you got into a car accident. You try to get up but your broken. And also your hand is fractured. You try to call 911 but you can't move it hurts so bad. Now you think how could you have been more safer? Your seat belt is very important. It should be the very first thing when you get ink your car. If you ever do get into a car crash you know you won't fly out. If you don't put your seat belt on and you do get into a car you could be left with serious injuries or even death. So be careful when you drive and always wear a seatbelt. By Karleemae

Gianna and Austin were diligent about collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Way to go!
Fun Day On Friday, May 17 the 7-12th graders had a positive incentive day outside down at the baseball field. Some of the staff played games with school kids. Some of the games included kickball, bean bag toss, ping pong, and even a dunk tank filled with water that the kids went on and got dunked. Everyone went down to the field at 11:30 and had a cook-out of brats and hamburgers for lunch. Everyone was down at the field until around 3:00. A good time was had by all.
Please continue to save milk caps and box tops. Money earned from those programs helps to pay for student field trips. Thank you!
Softball
Baseball The Lakers baseball team is currently 0 and 10 in the 2013 season. They have had a rough year all around facing a lot of injuries to some of their key players, which forces Coach Meronk to move a lot of younger players to places they have never played. The Lakers will travel to Gresham next Friday to play the 5 and 5 Wildcats in the first round of regionals. The Lakers will graduate 2 seniors this year Luke Wickersheim and Kris Gallagher. So this is a very young team who has time yet to improve.
The softball team did a lot better this year then they did last year, and the girls played like a team. The girls made a huge improvement compared to last year winning two game this year; one against Goodman-Pembine and one against Elcho. This year the girls are only losing two seniors so a lot of the players are coming back next year.
Congratulations Luke Wickersheim and Kris Gallagher, the Maxwell Award winners who were acknowledged at the Awards Banquet.
