THETA RAISES THE BAR AT WINTERFEST, AGAIN
If you thought the men of Theta (Michigan) reached their Winterfest peak in 2016, you were wrong. An online campaign, the support of local sponsors, and team participation fees combined to raise $110,000 for the Autism Alliance of Michigan. This is nearly double the amount raised in 2016 ($60,000) and is more than three times the amount raised in the event’s inaugural year of 2015 ($35,000). This year’s event, occurring on Saturday, February 11, saw participation from 32 Greek organizations on Michigan’s campus. Click here for more via MLive.com.

AROUND THE MYSTIC CIRCLE CHARTERING UPDATE
ALPHA BETA | IOWA
RE-CHARTERED on FEBRUARY 18, 2017
LOCATION Old Capital Museum KEYNOTE SPEAKER | INSTALLING OFFICER Sam Harris, Wayne State ’12 FRATERNITY STAFF Scott Rarick, Capital ’10 SPECIAL GUESTS Peter Prach, Iowa ’14 (first president of re-charter) & Richard Ligo, Westminster ’10 (GCA)
“Personally, re-chartering means a great deal because of the struggles we went thought to get where we are today. One thing I love about this chapter is the determination and ability each member has to persevere through hardship. I want to see Alpha Beta become a staple on campus. I would like to see everyone on campus know who we are and what our values are. I want to be known for our commitment and love to this community. I think we can continue to grow our brand and be recognized not only as a great fraternity, but also as a great group of men in the community.” - Chapter President, Jeffery Recker, Iowa ’14
THETA ETA | NEVADA
CHARTERED on FEBRUARY 25, 2017
LOCATION Joe Crawley Student Union, Miltglick Ballroom KEYNOTE SPEAKER | INSTALLING OFFICER Gordy Heminger, Bowling Green ’96 | Ryker Moore, Utah State ’15 FRATERNITY STAFF T.J. Brennan, Seton Hall ’11 SPECIAL GUESTS Bob Kutz, UC-Berkeley ’67, Bruce Thiel, Buffalo ’66, Socorro Zarate, Chico State ’13 (GCA)
“For our group to charter means that all of our hard work and sacrifices from all of our Founding Fathers led to this accomplishment. This was a test for ourselves to see whether we could all come together and get this provisional chapter chartered. Chartering was the first step to our many accomplishments. One of our goals has always been to make sure our brothers graduate with the highest GPA possible. Furthermore, we want to prove that we can sustain ourselves on campus even though multiple fraternities are coming in every fall.” - Chapter President, Narinder Mall, Nevada ’15

THIS MONTH in alpha sig history FEBRUARY 2, 1924 - Delta Kappa Gamma was organized at the University of Iowa in late 1920, and following the granting of its petition for charter, it was installed as the Alpha Beta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi. Alpha Beta re-chartered most recently on February 18, 2017 FEBRUARY 18, 1978 - The Beta Zeta Chapter at North Carolina State University was re-chartered on this date. Grand Senior President George Lord, Ohio Wesleyan ’61 and Executive Director Gary Anderson, Westminster’73, presented the charter and made the installation. Ironically, the Chapter’s first house after re-chartering was the former chapter house of Xi Chapter of Phi Pi Phi.

MEETING OUR DONORS & VOLUNTEERS
MICHAEL BLASI CHAPTER & INITIATION beta theta, ’65
INSTITUTION & GRADUATION rutgers, ’68
Brother Blasi has been a valued and consistent donor over the past 40 years. His most recent investment came as part of the Founders Day Challenge, the Fraternity’s annual fundraiser.
I’M A DONOR
As an alumnus, what is the most rewarding aspect of DONATING TO the Fraternity?
I feel a great debt to Alpha Sigma Phi. It is a significant part of who I am today! Among the many friends in life we meet and develop relationships with, it is my Alpha Sig brothers who are among the longest lasting and most meaningful friendships. Just recently, we have established an annual reunion at Rutgers each fall football season. We are on our fourth year now and the group is growing from just 8 to maybe 16 this year and more to come. We travel from all over the country to unite in New Jersey. Thus, investing in Alpha Sigma Phi is an overt way of saying ‘Thank You’ and helping to add to the needed resources to keep the great traditions of Alpha Sigma Phi alive and well.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO AN ALUMNUS WHO IS CONSIDERING MAKING AN INVESTMENT TO THE FRATERNITY?
When we give to a cause close to our hearts, we receive blessings in a much greater amount! If you feel for Alpha Sigma Phi as I do - or in your own individual way - please GIVE! We are all unique individuals and we all gained something special from our time as undergraduate members. Recognize this by contributing to your chapter’s endowment or to the Fraternity. Do this so others in the future are as fortunate as you have been to experience the brotherhood of Alpha Sigma Phi.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOUR INVESTMENT IN THE OLD GAL PROVIDES FUTURE GENERATIONS OF ALPHA SIGS?
I strongly believe in the great benefits the fraternal experience provides for undergraduate men. It is a very important part of a college education in my opinion. Alpha Sigma Phi, as a whole, has done a remarkable job in creating many opportunities for undergraduates to GROW in knowledge and in leadership skills, all for the purpose of making better citizens. I hope my contributions will help continue to make the good work of the Fraternity possible and provide an ever better and more positive experience for all newly initiated brothers.
BE A DONOR. Give
MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY to BETTER the MAN.

I’M A VOLUNTEER AS AN ALUMNUS, WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING ASPECT ABOUT VOLUNTEERING FOR THE FRATERNITY? The most rewarding aspect of being a volunteer for Alpha Sigma Phi is being able to give back to the Old Gal since she gave me so much as an undergraduate member and continues to give me as an alumnus. The Fraternity has redefined my life and I want to be able to help current undergraduate members have the same positive experience.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE FRATERNITY?
I think it’s important because we, as alumni, have a collective experience that exceeds the experience these young men have at the time that they take on their leadership roles. With that said, we are able to anticipate situations and have solutions ready for when those situtations do arise.
HOW DO YOU HOPE YOUR SERVICES AS A VOLUNTEER IMPACT THE MEN OF ALPHA SIGMA PHI FOR MANY YEARS TO COME?
It is my hope that my volunteer efforts help these men to enjoy their undergraduate experience as a member of Alpha Sigma Phi, and in turn, inspires them to give back to the Fraternity in any way they can.
