Release Notes This Release Notes document provides important information about Tivoli Manager for Message Queue Server (Manager for MQS), Version 1.0. These notes are the most current information for the product and take precedence over all other documentation. Please review these notes thoroughly before installing or using this product. Note: If a readme file is included on the Manager for MQS CD-ROM, its contents take precedence over all other documentation.

Introduction Manager for MQS provides a centralized system management tool for MSMQ on the Tivoli platform. The Manager for MQS facilitates the management of MSMQ servers on Tivoli-managed nodes and installed MSMQ client software. You can optionally use the Manager for MQS with Tivoli Global Enterprise Manager (Tivoli GEM) and Tivoli GEM Instrumentation for Tivoli Manager for Message Queue Server (Tivoli GEM instrumentation) to obtain a graphical topology display of each Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) server, their status, and a list of tasks that can be run against each MSMQ server. For more information on Tivoli GEM instrumentation, see “Tivoli GEM Instrumentation for Manager for MQS Release Notes” on page 5.

Documentation When you install Manager for MQS, files containing browsable and printable versions of the Tivoli Manager for Message Queue Server User's Guide (userguide.pdf and userguide.htm) are automatically placed in the %BINDIR%\..\generic_unix\TME\MSMQ\doc directory. In addition, the files are provided in the \DOC directory on the product's CD-ROM. Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print the \DOC\pdf\userguide.pdf file. Point your browser to \DOC\html\userguide.htm to view the user's guide online.

Tivoli GEM Instrumentation for Manager for MQS Release Notes This Release Notes document provides important information about the optionally-installed Tivoli GEM Instrumentation for Tivoli Manager for Message Queue Server. Refer to the Tivoli Global Enterprise Manager Release Notes, Version 2.2.1 for the most current information on using that product.

Introduction To manage Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) servers from Tivoli GEM's graphical Tivoli GEM console, you must install Tivoli GEM Instrumentation for Tivoli Manager for Message Queue Server (Tivoli GEM instrumentation) in addition to installing Tivoli Manager for Message Queue Server (Manager for MQS). Tivoli GEM instrumentation files on the Manager for MQS CD-ROM include: ■

Business description files (BDFs) and component description files (CDFs) found in the /GEMFILES directory. For more information, refer to Appendix C in the Tivoli Manager for Message Queue Server User's Guide. Icon files found in the /GEMFILES directory. AMP file which includes the CDF, BDF, and icon files. Shell script to circumvent a Tivoli Management Framework problem. See “Software Requirements” on page 6 for more information.

Tivoli GEM Instrumentation for Manager for MQS Release Notes

Run-time Requirements See the Tivoli Global Enterprise Manager Release Notes for the operating system and software requirements for running Tivoli GEM instrumentation in the Tivoli environment. For Tivoli GEM server prerequisites, refer to the Tivoli Global Enterprise Manager Installation and User's Guide and the Tivoli Global Enterprise Manager Release Notes.

Software Requirements Tivoli GEM instrumentation that runs on endpoints has the following run-time requirements: ■

Tivoli GEM Event Enablement (must be installed with the Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC)) Note: Run the ihsttec command to load the event classes and rules for Tivoli GEM instrumentation. The ihsttec command is located in the %BINDIR%\TDS\EventService directory.

Note: When installing Tivoli GEM instrumentation, the following message may be displayed: oserv FAILURE ON TIVOLI MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK, Version 3.6.

The oserv daemon may fail when installing a module on the Tivoli Management Framework, Version 3.6. You can avoid this problem by running the TMA_check_deps.sh script before installing modules. The TMA_check_deps.sh script is located on the CD-ROM in the /GEMFILES directory. You can also correct the oserv daemon failure problem by installing the 3.6-TMF-0033 patch followed by the 3.6-TMF-0038 patch for the Tivoli Management Framework.

Hardware Requirements The installation of Tivoli GEM instrumentation requires a minimum of 10 MB of free disk space and 10 MB of memory. This space requirement is in addition to the space requirements for the Manager for MQS.
