Payton Gibson

By: Jose Hernandez

Ms. Hegwood, Payton Gibson, and I left at 6:00 A.M. to make our way to Woodward for Western Oklahoma Choral Directors Association. When we arrived at the high school, we checked in and headed straight to rehearsals. The High School Mixed Choir sang an arrangement of four songs. They were “Zion’s Walls,” “O Sifuni Mungu,” “You Are the Music,” and “Witness.” There were rehearsals so the young men and women who were chosen could become one sound and impress their audience. These rehearsals lasted all throughout the day with a two hour break for lunch, and another two hour break for dinner. The concert was held at 7:00 P.M. starting with the Women’s Choir, followed by the Junior High Mixed Choir and finished with the High School Mixed Choir. This was a very educational experience in the manor of we had the opportunity to meet new people and learn to come together as one sound in very little time. It was a truly rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Construction By: Stetson Elam

Hardesty School’s Ag building has undergone a recent renovation on the outside walls by Karr Tuckpoint of Iowa, funded by a bond for $26,000. Bricks were replaced and the cement between each brick was replaced. Two construction workers worked through the cold and the snow, and in a matter of weeks had the Ag building looking new again. This was the first time such work had been done to any of the school and will work to preserve our school for many generations to come.

Thumbprint Cookies By: Abram Rivera

 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened  1 cup sugar  1 tsp. vanilla extract  3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour  1/2 tsp. salt Seedless strawberry or apricot jelly Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar and stir in the vanilla extract. In a medium-sized bowl, mix the flour and salt. Combine the flour mixture and the butter mixture until the dough is crumbly but holds together when pinched. Take a walnut-sized piece of dough in one hand. With the thumb of the other hand, gently knead it three times. Roll it into a ball and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. With your knuckle or thumb, press a well in the center and fill with 1/2 teaspoon of jelly. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes about 6 dozen cookies. http://spoonful.com/recipes/thumbprint-cookies

Christmas Recipes Noodles By: Stetson Elam Recipe By: Brenda Elam

1 cup flour plus more for rolling out Photo: www.lisadang.com 1/2 tsp. fine sea salt 2 large eggs Preparation: 1. Combine the flour and salt in a large shallow bowl. Make a well in the center and crack the eggs into it. 2. Use a fork to beat the eggs and then gradually start incorporating the flour into the eggs. Keep stirring and pulling in more flour until a solid dough forms. The dough will be sticky. 3. Turn the dough out onto a well-floured surface. With well-floured hands, knead the dough, incorporating more flour as necessary to keep it from sticking to the work surface or your hands, until it is smooth and firm and no longer sticky. This takes 5 to 10 minutes for most people. 4. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill it for at least 30 minutes and up to overnight. 5. Divide the dough into two pieces and work with half the dough at a time. On a well-floured surface roll out the dough to the desired thickness (anywhere from 1/4 inch to paper thin). Be sure to rotate or otherwise move the dough between each pass of the rolling pin to keep the dough from sticking to the work surface. Sprinkle everything with flour as necessary to keep the dough from sticking. 6. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutting wheel to cut the noodles. You can make then as narrow or wide as you like, but cut them as evenly as possible to ensure uniform cooking time. 7. Lay the noodles on a cooling or drying rack and let them sit until ready to cook. Repeat rolling and cutting with the remaining half of the dough. Boil the noodles in well salted water until tender to the bite. Drain and serve with butter or cheese, with stews, or in soups.

Elf on the Shelf By Felicia Bowman

Hardesty Elementary has been visited this December by “Watcher”, our Elf on the Shelf®. Watcher was sent by Santa to help complete his naughty and nice list. He keeps an eye on the children during the day and returns to the North Pole each night to report the day’s activities to Santa. Each morning, Watcher returns and finds a different place to sit and watch the children. The elementary students have enjoyed having Watcher visiting and hopes he returns next December!
