Free Elective Credit Information: Students must take at least 18 credits of Free Electives, but in some cases may need more to reach the 124 credits required to earn their degree. An example of when a student would need to take more than 18 free elective credits: A student fulfills the Global/World Society requirement by participating in an approved summer or semester study abroad program. The student would be given a Waiver for this requirement, but must still complete 3 credits. Thus, the 3 credits is shifted from the Global/World Society requirement to the Free Elective Requirement and the student is then able to take any course he/she needs for a minor or just would like to take for personal interest Students can use these 18+ Free Elective Credits to earn a Minor or Certificate. Temple University offers a wide range of Minors and Certificates. STHM students may be interested in the following two options, but are encouraged to think about personal and professional goals when choosing a minor or certificate. Please see an advisor with questions! Business Minors and Certificate Options: http://sbm.temple.edu/advising/minors.html • General Business Studies Minor • Business Minor • Management Information Systems (MIS) Certificate (Students are encouraged to take HRM 1101, Organization in Management, as a Free Elective because HRM 1101 along with the required courses of ACCT 2101 Financial Accounting, ECON 1101 Macroeconomic Principles, and MKTG 2101 Marketing Management, completes four of the eight required courses of a Business or a General Business minor.) Geography and Urban Studies Certificate Options: http://www.temple.edu/gus/undergraduate/minors/index.htm • Certificate of Specialization in the Geography of Tourism • Certificate of Specialization in the Geography of Sports, Recreation and Tourism Planning
