Transition to LibGuides v2 Post-Migration Checklist Update Profile
From your LibApps dashboard, select My Profile Please change the Profile Box Title to: Your Librarian Upload/update your picture (if you do not want it to be a picture of you that is fine) Fill in at least your email and phone number in Contacts & Social General Please include/add your profile on the main page of all Subject and Course guides, this will be added automatically to new guides, but if you did not have it on a migrated guide you will need to add it (note Profile Box is a box type). o You can move automatic ones to a different spot on the main page if you want to. Profile boxes no longer automatically populate on every new page. o Profile boxes are not required on How Do I… Guides or Tutorials using side navigation.
Apply Correct Template to Each Guide We have customized KL templates with minor layout customizations. Guides migrated in to the Default Tab template. Please update the Template for each of your guides to… o Subject and Course Guides – KL Tab Navigation o How Do I… Guides and Tutorials - KL Side Navigation (choose between one or two columns) When you make this switch, you will need to rearrange your content. This template automatically includes the Need Some Help box? o For the KL for Online Students group, follow the same principles but use the Templates with Online in the front of the name. For How Do I…Guides and Tutorials, turn on the Next/Prev buttons as appropriate Consider Responsive Design Principles When laying out your content, think about how it will stack on a mobile device. Review and Update Content Make sure no wacky fonts came through in paragraph text (noticed some inline styles came through…not sure why) – you will need to go into the Source and remote errant tags. Check your column widths and use one of the set sizes to clean them up. Reusing Content Review the content available in the Storage Guide. Go through all of your guides and replace any that match with reused boxes from the Storage Guide. o Some of the box content is also available as Widget Assets (chat widget, search box, etc.), so you can also add them to a box with other content. This is noted on the Storage Guide. Do you have the same boxes on more than one of your guides? Consider reusing from one of them, but do keep in mind boxes are still associated at the guide, not system, level. Review Links Do you have links in the Rich Text instead of as Link Assets? If so, consider converting them into Links or Guide Lists instead. o Please follow the Best Practices for Links – reuse links already in the system when possible, use the Guide List for links to other guides Review Images & Videos Check all of your images to be sure they resize OK for mobile and tablets. Remember fixed width images will not resize properly. If you did not fix them pre-migration… o Either resize your image and re-upload it or plan to have your image be the full size of whatever box it is in. Note: you may need to delete the width and height automatically added when you upload the image. If you did not add alt tags do your image pre-migration, be sure to do that now. Alt tags are associated at the guide level, not within the Image Manager. Check all of your videos and make sure they resize OK. Heidi already added responsive code for all that are turned in Widget Assets, but please double check. Instructions for future video embeds will be in the Best Practices. Clean Up Image Manager The new Image Manager is much easier to use a true file system. o Delete any images you no longer need/duplicates. o Organize your images into folders if that is helpful for you. o Put any images that you think would be useful to everyone in the Shared folder (cannot currently move from one to another). Read the updated LibGuides Best Practices guide The July 1st workshop and this checklist focus on cleaning up existing content. Please be sure to review the Best Practices for important steps when creating a new guide to keep all our content consistent and awesome! Remember the Web Style Guide! All guides are web pages. Please keep our new Style Guide in mind as you edit and add new content. She will investigate further and let you know if it is something that is being worked on. This is still a Beta product and something we were used to in v1 have not been built yet.
