S. M. Coxeter --- he of the famous University of Aizu Coxeter-Dynkin diagrams and the Coxeter elements of Weyl groups. This talk, part history and part Waseda University mathematics, is a sort of homage to Coxeter and the profound way in which his work and diagrams came Nagoya University to influence my research, both in Lie theory and in University of Tsukuba aperiodic order. Given the highly Lie theoretical audience, the mathematical part of my talk will turn to University of Tsukuba the less familiar aperiodic side, which has occupied the past 25 years of my work.
