Tutorial # 3 – “ How to use VLC as Media Streamer and configururation for YouTube® and YouPorn® Plug-in” English version

Premise VLC Plug-in installed by default in the QBoxHD allows the user to stream directly from any source connected on the network (PC, Media Disks etc). A real time decryption is performed by the PC (any OS where VLC is available for) and directly sent to the QBoxHD upon request. Using VLC instead of the embedded QBoxHD’s Media Player may sometimes be useful to support formats (ex. FLV) which are not natively supported or not yet implemented by the QBoxHD. For this reason VLC must be always running (even in background mode) on your PC. Scope This procedure explains how to use YouTube Player with QBoxHD. YouTube® and YouPorn® Plug-in ‘s need to have a PC Windows/MAC/Linux with VLC Player installed (http://www.videolan.org) and always working on background while you are watching YouTube® and YouPorn®. The PC will operate the Flash Player Movie decryption on behalf of your QBoxHD in real time. This is the reason why VLC must be running on your PC’s background during YouTube play and properly being set. Note: To void audio problems use:

YouPorn® Plug-in it is strongly recommended to use VLC version 1.0.0 beta or further. Here is the download link: http://download.videolan.org/pub/testing/vlc-1.0.0-rc4/win32/vlc-1.0.0rc4-win32.exe (Win32 version). See point 4 for different configuration string on PC.

For YouTube ® Plug-in it is recommended to use version 0.9.9 because version 1.0.0 beta has some streaming problems. This compatibility problem may be solved on new VLC PC release version. See point 4 for different configuration string on PC.

What is needed 1. QBoxHD connected via LAN or WiFi on your local network where the PC is working too. Procedure 1. Download and install VLC into your computer. http://www.videolan.org 2. Create a shortcut on the desktop of your PC to have a shortcut to launch the VLC quickly. 3. Press the Right Mouse button on the VLC Icon and click on properties. Figure 1 will appear.

4. Add on the end of target line the string: •

like shown with the red arrow on Figure 1. The PC configuration is now completed. Please make sure you followed correctly point number 4.

5. Turn on the QBoxHD and press the “MENU” button.

6. Enter the “Plugin” Menu. 7. Enter the VLC menu as shown with the red arrow in figure 2

9. Press green button “Add Server” 10. Press yellow button “Edit Server” 11. Now configure as in figure 3.

Server Address: The IP address of the PC where VLC is installed and running.

Figure 3 Note: From this moment VLC Plug-in your QBoxHD allows the user to browse content in a remote PC or HDD to play contents directly from there. This can be very useful to use the remote PC as content storage. Do not forget that VLC installed on PC must be working at all time while using video streaming Plug- in’s such as YouTube® or YouPorn®

12. Press “EXIT” button on your Remote Control 13. Press “MENU”. 14. Enter “Plug-In” menu by pressing “OK” 15. Choose the Plug-in you want to play YouTube® or YouPorn® 16. Follow the content selection on your choice (most viewed, most rated etc) 17. When asked for the VLC server use the server previously configured from step 8

Activate Parental Control for YouPorn® Plug-in: To activate the Parental Control in YouPorn® Plug-in you have to: 1. Activate “Enable Parental” in Menu->Setup->Parental control 2. Enable “Protect Setup” and, if needed, specify the PIN.

Note: For video streaming it is recommended to have a broadband connection as slow connection may cause long lead time before the video gets delivered to your QBoxHD
