Gauge

14 sts and 30 rows = 4 inches/10cm in garter st. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Pattern Notes

Scarf is worked from side to side. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches when picking up along the upper edge. Do not join. When changing colors, carry color not in use loosely on wrong side.

Pattern Stitch

Fan (worked over 10 sts on Row 1; worked across 1 st fewer every WS row) Rows 1 (WS) and 2: K10, turn. Rows 3 and 4: K9, turn. Rows 5 and 6: K8, turn. Rows 7 and 8: K7, turn. Rows 9 and 10: K6, turn. Rows 11 and 12: K5, turn. Rows 13 and 14: K4, turn. Rows 15 and 16: K3, turn. Rows 17 and 18: K2, turn.

Row 9: With A, knit to last 2 sts, kfb, k1—8 sts. Rows 10–12: Knit. Rep [Rows 1–12] 3 times—17 sts.
