OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Background The Happy Schools Project was launched by UNESCO Bangkok in June 2014 with the aim of promoting happiness in schools through enhanced learner well-being and holistic development. The main outcome was the 2016 publication Happy Schools: A Framework for Learner Well-being in the Asia-Pacific.1 The report features a framework of 22 criteria for a happy school under three broad categories: 1) People, 2) Process, and 3) Place. For example, these criteria include building positive relationships between teachers and students, promoting fun and engaging learning approaches, and creating a school environment free from bullying. As a follow-up, this 2nd phase aims to operationalize the Happy Schools Framework at the local and national level, as well as increase awareness, understanding and utilization of the Happy Schools Framework amongst policymakers, educators, and community stakeholders. The project includes the development of a Happy Schools Implementation Guide, capacity development workshops mainly targeting teachers, teacher trainers and school leaders, and regional knowledge exchanges and policy seminars to discuss the outcomes. It targets at least two countries in Asia and the Pacific. UNESCO MGIEP serves as an implementation partner of the Happy Schools Project (Phase II) and forms an expert team to operationalize the Happy Schools Project. II. Assignments Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO MGIEP, and the direct supervision of the project lead Yoko Mochizuki, Project Officer of UNESCO MGIEP, the consultant shall undertake the following assignments: 1. Systematically organize collected literature based on a framework agreed upon with the supervisor. 3. Create a database which ensures AI harvesting at a later stage. 4. Contribute substantial input to development of the Happy Schools Implementation Guide and the Pilot Methodology as requested by the supervisor.
