Media Release For Immediate Release [DURBAN, South Africa – 16 August 2013] UNISA IS CHANGING – APPLICATION PROCESS FOR 2014 The applications process for the 2014 academic year commenced on 15 August 2013 and will close on 20 September 2013. There are significant changes to the process and it is very important that students familiarize themselves with these changes. It is mandatory that applications be submitted online. All applicants must have an email address to be able to complete the application form. Applicants are urged to upload documents for their choice of qualifications at the point of application. All returning (current or previously registered) Unisa students that wish to change qualification in 2014 must apply as well Important note for the applicants: Students have been classified according to the following categories: First time applicants entails: 

prospective students who have never studied at Unisa before,



students who might have or are currently studying short courses,



current grade 12 students



students studying at other higher education institutions and wishing to enroll at Unisa in 2014

Returning students: 

any student who wishes to change the qualification they are currently or previously registered for



currently registered students



students who have studied at Unisa before 2013



students in their final semester/ year that intend to study further such as from a degree to Hons



students wishing to change specialization of current qualification

Masters/Doctors Degree 

Any student meeting the admission requirements to apply for a masters or doctors degree.

New applicants are not provided with any reference number until they have paid an application fee and have uploaded all required documentation. They can select two choices so that if they do not meet the minimum requirements of the 1st choice they will default to the 2nd choice provided they meet the admission requirements Returning applicants must provide their student numbers as part of the authentication process before being allowed to complete an application form. They do not have to upload their documents before the application is accepted and application fee is not applicable to them. In this process, students with SLP (Short Learning Programme) numbers will be referred to send an email to the applications office to assist them apply for a formal number. NB in this process it will be expected for such applicants to provide the electronic copies of their supporting documents. It is important to note that during registration students will only be able to register for a qualification that they qualify for, no change of qualification will be allowed at the point of registration.
