Using Auto/Biography in Learning and Teaching

A SEDA Workshop to launch its latest publication

When?

Wednesday 30th April, 2008, 9.30am – 4.30pm

Where?

SEDA, Woburn House, 20 – 24 Tavistock Square, London WC1H 9HF

Many of us use anecdotes from our own experience to illuminate and bring to life our lectures, seminars and workshops, for both our students and for our staff development activities. Equally we frequently solicit examples from our learners about the topic under discussion, as a means of establishing learning links between the learners’ life experiences and the topic, in order to facilitate internalisation. This workshop will provide you with an opportunity to review and share what you currently do and to further develop your use of auto/biography. We are fortunate to be having inputs from the following five authors who have contributed chapters to Using Auto/Biography in Teaching and Learning. Judith Burnett of UEL will talk about “Spilling the Beans”; Anthony Brand of Anglia Ruskin will be “Exorcising Ghosts of the Past” and Margaret Johnson, HE consultant, will take us through “Personal Language Histories”. Peter Critten, Middlesex University, will help us undertake “Enquiries into Self “and Anthony Rosie, Sheffield Hallam, will outline the process of “Imaginative Biography”. The day will be introduced by Philip Frame, Middlesex University. During each session, our authors will outline their approach to the use of auto/biography. Then they will work with participants to explore how this input could impact on their own practice. The cost of £85 includes refreshments and lunch and a copy of the publication
