FALL IN PARADISE! By Alex Murphy
This Fall was jam packed with social events at the clubhouse! We kicked off with the annual Halloween Party — Voodoo on the Bayou. The costumes were outstanding this year. We hope you had the opportunity to view the photo display that recapped the event. Thank you to Mickey Sapperstone and Al Wax of the Photography Club for running the photo booth and giving everyone a souvenir photo! We had a blast with our first Photo Scavenger Hunt — please join us for the Winter Edition Photo Scavenger Hunt this quarter. New and seasoned residents had the opportunity to get acquainted at our new event, Mix & Mingle, and we celebrated the season with two nights of the Holiday Cocktail Party. We ended the year with our annual New Year’s Eve celebration, the cruise themed party “Sailing into 2015,” where attendees enjoyed a catered dinner and dancing. Thank you to the New Year’s Eve committee for planning a fantastic and beautiful event — your time and dedication is greatly appreciated! THE WINNING FALL PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT TEAM!
VALENCIA RESIDENTS SHOW THEIR APPRECIATION The residents showed their appreciation once again this year with the Annual Employee Appreciation Program. The collection committee presented a year end gift to the Lifestyle, Bistro, Property Management and Gate House team members.

CLUB SPOTLIGHT THE VLWWC HAS A FUN AND VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR Submitted by Marie Chandler The year 2014 was a great one for the Valencia Lakes Women’s Club! The year started off with a Wedding Dress Presentation and Champagne Brunch. It was so much fun sipping champagne and listening to the history of the wedding dresses, dating all the way back to the 18th century! In March, we watched our Valencia Lakes men strut their stuff at our Dollars for Scholars Men’s Fashion Show. In May, we all enjoyed our annual Women’s Fashion Show. We love shopping for new fashions, don’t we gals? We took the summer off to travel, visit with the grandkids, and go north, to enjoy the cooler temperatures. We hit the ground running though in the fall! In Oct we enjoyed a wonderful tea party honoring our service women that have so bravely served our country! These women were so grateful and thrilled to be invited to our tea in honor of them. In November, we held our annual Dance for the Cure and the Walk for the Cure. It was an amazing beautiful morning to take a walk! Thanksgiving week, we erected the annual angel tree for our generous community to buy gifts for some underprivileged kids. We rounded up the year with a fun holiday luncheon, with a creative top contest. At our meetings, we had speakers, from the VA Haley House, Moffitt Cancer Center and Dress for Success. We gave away scholarships to five students and we raised LOTS of money this year for scholarships — and Moffitt! Here’s to another fun and successful year!
WOODWORKING 101—VALENCIA LAKES WOODWORKERS CLUB Carl Aber/President of the Valencia Lakes Woodworkers Club The Woodworkers Club had it first project for residents to participate on November 17th. Jim Harrington guided the class of four residents through the processes from start to finish! The participants had a choice from eight different wooden wheeled toys to select from. Each started from a pattern and small piece of pine board. With training on the bandsaw, drill press and sanding machines they were able to fabricate a wonderful wooden toy. Training on the equipment was provided by Les Pressey, Jim Harrington and Carl Aber. After some final hand sanding and painting they glued the axles and wheels in place. Woodworking 101 class participants are Bob Mandl, James Maubach, Joyce Vigorito and Harry Ross who proudly hold their finished wooden toys! Well done!
VALENCIA SINGERS PREPARE FOR SECOND ANNUAL SPRING CONCERT The magic of the cinema is an irreplaceable part of our everyday culture. And the music from dozens of classic Hollywood movies is as memorable as their stars. We’ll celebrate the silver screen and Hollywood’s colorful musical history — spanning eight decades of movie magic — with this year’s exciting choral revue, HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD. No fewer than 50 famous, classic movie songs and themes will be featured in this extravaganza presented by your friends and neighbors performing in the chorus, in small groups, and singing solos. The chorus will, again, be directed by Ms. Sharon Henry for this concert. Due to the overwhelming demand for tickets to last year’s “100 Years of Broadway” concert, we plan to offer TWO performances of this highly entertaining and fun-filled show: FRIDAY, APRIL 24TH AT 8pm and again AT 7pm ON SUNDAY, MAY 3RD. Mark your calendars now and plan to buy early to ensure getting your preferred night. Tickets will go on sale next March (date TBA) and will sell for $10 each. The Valencia Singers rehearse weekly on Tuesdays at 1:30pm in the Social Hall. Experience in choral singing is preferred, but not required. For information, contact Paula Newburger, President, at
[email protected].
