Suggested walking days: These generally start after breakfast, taking a picnic lunch and returning to the house in time to relax before dinner. This 8-day / 7-night holiday offers 5 days’ walking - one day is left free for independent time or sightseeing. A typical classic walking day will offer you a choice of up to 3 guided walks each of varying length and ascent. You choose the walk that suits your level of experience and fitness. Here are some suggested routes that may be offered. Your experienced walking guides will brief you each night on the choice of walks for the following day.

Easier Walks: Up to 8 miles (13km), with up to 1500ft (450m) of ascent in a day. From the house we walk down into the pretty village of Beddgelert, and after looking at 'Gelert’s Grave' we head for the dramatic gorge of the Aberglaslyn pass to Pont Aberglaslyn. On another route we head up and over to lovely Llyn Dinas via Cwm Bychan and pass by the Sygun Copper mine. We may walk through Gwydyr Forest to Llyn Parc and Llyn y Sarnau, then circle back to reach the lovely Swallow Falls, and return by the river Llugwy. Some walks may follow alongside the famous Ffestiniog narrow gauge railway to Dduallt station, then through woods and waterfalls to finish in Blaenau Ffestiniog. We also may walk around Llyn Padarn from Llanberis, enjoying the Padarn Country Park, old quarry hospital and slate museum (free entry). Another easier walk is a lovely linear walk starting from one of Snowdon’s dramatic feet at Pen-y-Gwryd, all the way down the Gwynant Valley.

Medium Walks: Up to 10 miles (16km) with up to 3200ft (960m) of ascent in a day Head for the top of one of Snowdonia’s most shapely mountains, Cnicht. A long ridge leads up and over then down into the Nanmor Valley. We may get chance to stand atop of Moel Hebog guarding Beddgelert. Another walk starts at Pont Cyfyng and ascends Moel Siabod, the favourite Welsh mountain for many people. Its 360º views are unparalleled. We descend to the National Mountain Centre Plas Y Brenin, and finish at the Pinnacle Café in Capel Curig. With a head start high up at the busy col of Pen y Pass, we enjoy fantastic mountain scenery and reach the top of Snowdon, the biggest mountain in England and Wales, via the Pyg track. We also top Moel Eilio, at the end of one of the massive ridges leading up to Snowdon, with views out to sea.

Harder Walks: Up to 11 miles (17.5km) with up to 3700 feet (1110m) of ascent in a day Our walking options may include a circular walk from the house to the lovely twin peaks that dominate Beddgelert, Moel Hebog and Moel Lefn, returning through Beddgelert forest beside the Welsh Highland Railway. Or, walk a circular route from Capel Curig, ascending Moel Siabod via Pont Cyfyng, Llyn y Foel and the Daer Ddu ridge, with rewarding views of Snowdonia laid out for us from the summit. We reach the summit of Snowdon from Pen y Pass, then descend the superb and less busy south ridge to join the Watkin path by its waterfalls, and return to the Country House on foot. The Nantlle Ridge is a must-do for more adventurous walkers: a true British ‘classic’ ridge with some exposure but rewards to match. From Rhyd Ddu we ascend steeply up to Y Garn, then follow the ridge round to Trum Y Ddysgl; we then take a satisfying spur south down to Bwlch-y-Ddwy-y-Elor and a forest track back to the start. On your free day - Snowdonia is noted for its concentration of narrow gauge steam railways, all of which offer highly scenic journeys. The Ffestiniog Railway and Snowdon Mountain Railways are both within reach. For a truly unique day out you can take the mountain railway to the summit of Snowdon. Or, you may like to visit the impressive & well-preserved Caernarvon Castle, built by Edward I after his conquest of Wales. Outdoor Travel walking holidays – guided in small groups or self-guided - with inn-to-inn luggage transfers and meals are available in many parts of the UK, Ireland and across Europe including the Coast-to-Coast trail, the Cotswolds Way, the spectacular Yorkshire Dales, the rugged coast of Cornwall, Dartmoor, the West Highland Way in Scotland or in Ireland on the Ring of Kerry.
