BOYS SOCCER Soccer is undergoing a change this season*. The Central Ohio teams that sponsor middle school soccer have all agreed to have one team only per school. This means soccer will potentially be a cut sport this fall depending on number of athletes that come to tryouts. Weaver MS will only have one team this fall. The coach will determine number of athletes he will keep on the team, but it could range from 18-25 players for the team in the fall. There will be summer workouts on Monday and Thursday evenings starting on June 21st. If you’ve previously read this, the early June summer workouts were canceled. Brady Hall will be our new Boys MS soccer coach replacing Brandon Thompson who will be moving up to the HS boys soccer staff. Congrats to Coach Thompson on moving up and please welcome aboard Brady Hall as our new Boys MS Weaver Soccer Coach. *Soccer Parents and Athletes: Please remember there will only be 1 team this fall for both boys and girls soccer at Weaver Middle School. The Central Ohio group whose schools have MS soccer have made this decision collectively. There are 13 schools which have boys soccer and 13 schools that have girls soccer. Determining factors involed competitiveness of B teams playing A teams. There were many lopsided scores over the last two falls. Some schools only had 1 coach and having A & B teams play on same nights in different locations was not possible. This cost some schools scheduled games that could not be made up. Some teams had low numbers and still tried to field two teams and with injuries and players who quit ended up cancelling or rescheduling games which caused issues with officials and stress on schools trying to avoid other sports, facility usage, etc. Final reason, only A teams participate in the post season tournament. As a group, both coches and Athletic Directors, agreed moving forward that each school will have 1 team each will help with schedule, travel, officials, and the competitive nature of some of our games. Boys and girls will play on the same night in the fall as well. The Hilliard City Schools Administrative team is aware of this change and fully on board with this decision. If you have any questions please direct those to your coach or to Jay Cauley, Assistant Athletic Director at Davidson High School and Weaver Middle School.
