Web Technologist Infrastructure Services Information Technology Services Job Posting: U17-202 Position Type: Full-time/Term Start Date: As soon as possible

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (35 hrs/week) Salary: Pay Grade 10; $25.60 to $27.34 per hour. Replaces: W. GENERAL STATEMENT As a member of the Web Services group within the IT Services Department, the position works with the Senior Web Technologist and under the direction of the Manager, Systems and Software Development. This position participates in and is responsible for the development, implementation and operation of web enabled services, applications and related technologies. TYPICAL DUTIES  Advises on web content inquiries and requests regarding Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Architecture (IA), User Experience (UX), usability, W3C guidelines and implementation thereof;  Designs and implements WGC-approved templates, web applications, widgets and related technologies;  Configures, implements and maintains third-party web and internet-enabled services and applications, including search engines, website statistics, geolocation, and any third-party Application Programming Interfaces (API);  Implements and maintains the infrastructure directly related to website content.  Maintains and improves existing web applications;  Develops and maintains technologies and services related to the operation of web-enabled services, including but not limited to databases, rapid development frameworks, and programming libraries;  Liaises with, and provides training to, College staff related to the scope of the job;  Maintains a documentation library related to the scope of the job;  Maintains an internal version control system;  Provides timely customer service and responds to high-priority requests using an internal work-order system;  May conduct and/or participates in informal seminars related to the scope of the job;  May conduct and/or participates in usability testing, surveys and audits of web and internet enabled services, applications and related technologies;  

Provides assistance and guidance to content editors; Recommends and adheres to web and application development standards;

Performs other duties similar in scope and complexity.

QUALIFICATIONS A diploma in Computer Technology, Web Design or equivalent and two years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with basic web technologies and techniques including XHTML, XML, CSS, cross-browser compatibility, web standards. Proven experience in programming/scripting in a web-based environment (PHP, ASP.net, JavaScript, Perl, ActionScript, etc.) and User-Centred Design. Also:             

Experience using Content Management Systems (CMS); Experience with databases and Structured Query Language (SQL); General knowledge of networks, servers and dependencies; Hands on knowledge and experience of Linux/BSD, Apache, Windows Server and IIS; Experience in Quality Assurance and testing; Experience in requirements gathering and business analysis; Experience with version control and ticket systems; Experience with Adobe Creative Suite 3; Knowledge of ITIL Service Management; Customer focused; Excellent time management skills; Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex ideas in simple terminology; Ability to work within a team as well as independently.
