06 product questions – top 9 faqs

FAQ q: all inquiries regarding balancing creams: 1. what is the difference between phytoprolief and prolief?

A: Both are natural balancing creams conveniently packaged in a metered pump to supply 1/4 teaspoon of product per dose. PhytoProlief contains added phytoestrogen herbs, and Prolief does not.

2. what is the suggested use for the natural balancing creams?

A: The recommended use for women is 1/4 teaspoon (1 pump) to 1/2 teaspoon (2 pumps) per day. One pump should be applied in the evening. If using two pumps, they should be divided, one in the morning, one in the evening. Apply the natural balancing cream to the soft tissues, such as the chest, inner arms, neck, face, palms of the hands and soles of the feet. It is recommended to rotate applications to a different soft tissue with each usage. For men, apply 1/8 teaspoon (1/2 pump) of Prolief daily to face after shaving or to soft tissues.

3. should i use one pump or two?

A: For individual questions, please check with a physician. For further reading, the following list is suggested: •

q: i am currently using a new skin care system (e.g., arbonne intelligence … not-so-basic skin care™, nutriminc® re9, nutrimenc™ re9 or clear advantage), and i am: • •

having a reaction (dryness, additional breakouts, redness, etc.) not seeing results (fine lines/blemishes are still there)

A: How long have you been using the system? Consider that the normal process of new skin cells rising to the surface – cell turnover rate – takes 30 - 60 days; therefore you may not see the new cells that are stimulated by the products for as long as two months. There is an initial period of adjustment that skin goes through any time you switch products or begin using a new system. This is completely normal and varies in duration, because everyone’s skin is different. It can take about four to six weeks for the skin to adjust to new products. During this process, it is normal to have new breakouts, additional breakouts, or a different reaction of some sort because the products are very concentrated and will bring impurities up to the surface of your skin. Our suggestions are as follows: Consider the amount of product used for application. Because they are so concentrated, it is a lot for your skin to metabolize all at once. We suggest starting with as little as possible and building up from there to meet the needs of your skin. Consider the frequency of use. Perhaps using the products every other day or once a day instead of twice can prove beneficial during the first few weeks of use. Sometimes it is helpful to introduce the products one at a time. This way, if there is sensitivity, you can better identify which product may have triggered it and make the appropriate adjustments.

frequently asked questions

Performing a patch test can also help determine which product may be the cause for the sensitivity. Apply a small amount of product on the upper, inner arm, cover with a bandage, and leave on overnight. The next morning, look for any signs of irritation, such as redness, itchiness, etc. Finally, it is possible that your skin simply does not agree with the product or an ingredient in it. At this point, please consult the detailed ingredient lists provided for each product and if needed, discontinue use.

q: i would like to know about the safety of using (a particular product) for (this particular person/condition). this includes any product not specifically indicating the use for specific medical conditions, children, use during pregnancy and while nursing, etc. for example: “is the figure 8® line okay to use while i am pregnant,” “is the herbal colon cleanse okay for my 6-year-old,” or “i have a client with high-blood pressure, can they use our supplements with ginseng?” A: We are unable to answer these types of questions specifically. The safest thing to do would be to print the list of ingredients for the desired products and check with your physician. As a general rule, whenever you have a Client who is under the supervision of a physician for any reason, advise that she/he consult with her/his doctor. The same is true if your Client is taking any prescription or over-the-counter drug. All of our topical products should be fine to use while pregnant or nursing, unless a particular medical condition is present. For nutritional supplements to use while pregnant or nursing, please print the ingredients for the desired products and consult a physician. We do not recommend that pregnant or nursing women use the Figure 8® Weight Loss Program, unless under the supervision of a physician.

q: i need information on/recommendations for rosacea, psoriasis, eczema and details on controversial ingredients such as parabens, mineral oil, talc, sodium lauryl sulfate, cocamide dea, aluminum, alcohol, urea, quaternium-15, etc. A: We have a valuable resource for our Consultants’ convenience, though we are typically unable to suggest any more than is already stated here. Please go to www.arbonne.com, click Internet Consultants to log in, then click Field Support, and finally click Download Forms to find an endless amount of resources Arbonne has put together. Please feel free to download, print, e-mail, and share these documents! The safety of all cosmetic ingredients has been, is, and will continue to be constantly questioned. This is why Arbonne is dedicated to providing products, which contain ingredients that are proven safe. Industry experts test all cosmetic ingredients periodically for safety and effectiveness. The CIR (Cosmetic Ingredient Review) Board determines ingredients’ safety and reports its findings to the CTFA (Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association). The CTFA is the watchdog for all manufacturing and cosmetic ingredients. The CIR and CTFA are unbiased and extremely reputable. There is so much conflicting information found on each cosmetic ingredient that one has to be certain that the source for the information is credible. Arbonne uses guidelines set by the regulatory bodies listed above. When the CIR tests an ingredient, it looks at ALL available studies done on that specific ingredient. This includes studies performed in other countries, as well as those conducted in the United States. Please be assured that Arbonne will take immediate action on any ingredient that is unsafe in any of its formulations when guided by the FDA, the CTFA or the CIR. In our normal course of business, we continue to research and develop the pure, safe, and beneficial products our Consultants and Clients have enjoyed for more than 25 years. q: what if i am allergic to … soy, dairy, shellfish, wheat/gluten, aloe, and nut oils. A: Those with known allergies should always avoid the ingredients to which they are allergic to, regardless of who produces them. If they would like to still use certain products, please take the ingredient lists directly to a physician or allergist for his/her approval. Here are the lists of products to reference from for these common allergies. Read them carefully. Some list the products that DO contain the allergen, and some list the products that DO NOT. Also note that although we have provided these lists, continue to check the labels of all products for confirmation, and if unsure, please consult a physician.

dairy: The Figure 8® products contain NO dairy.

shellfish: The glucosamine sulfate we use in our Joint Formula comes from the exoskeletons of shellfish. We do not harvest the exoskeletons or the shells with the animals in them; instead, we use the exoskeletons once the animals have left them. These exoskeletons are only the starting point for the materials. Because they go through several processing steps before becoming a final ingredient, the glucosamine is often considered a non-animal products/byproduct, and does not typically cause any allergic reactions.

q: why are corn syrup and sugar used in the figure 8® on the go! weight loss chews? A: Corn Syrup, Sugar/Fructose In selecting the ingredients for the products, nutrition was the first consideration. While most sweeteners are metabolized to glucose, they have different effects on the body and different rates of absorption. Corn Syrup was added for sweetness; it is also an important ingredient for manufacturing purposes. Fructose is a carbohydrate, yet has the lowest glycemic index of all carbohydrates, imparting the lowest insulin response. When protein and fat are combined with any carbohydrate, the glycemic index is reduced even further. Obtaining a balance of energy nutrients, as recommended in the Figure 8® guidelines, helps alleviate concern about the type of carbohydrate/sweetener used in the products. The ingredients selected for Figure 8® are the optimal choices for creating safe and effective products. For more information on Figure 8®, please visit http://www.gofigure8.com.

q: what’s the difference between your products and (this product). why should i use your sunscreen over another? i saw (this product) advertised; what do you have to say about it? A. We do not make comparisons with other products on the market when it takes a negative position; however, we do encourage individual research and consumer education to ensure the right choice is made. One can ask the question, “Why Arbonne?” for any individual product, but the difference is in an understanding of the products themselves and the company that stands behind them. The amount of research and development that Arbonne puts into each and every product is astounding. Each individual ingredient was selected for its specific properties and has been tested repeatedly during the processes and again within the final product. For further reference, all of our testing information is stated and illustrated clearly in the Product Knowledge Manual under the Introduction section. We own all of our own formulas and are currently acquiring patents for our revolutionary NutriMinC® RE9 system, Arbonne Intelligence…not-so-basic skin care™ Smart Set, Figure 8 Vanish™ and About Face Prep & Plump™.

q: are your products certified organic/kosher? what does the source “science” mean as stated in the ingredient lists? A: Many botanical ingredients used in Arbonne’s products are organic, from the perspective of having been grown without harmful chemicals or pesticides. Not all ingredients are available as organic which is why we cannot make such a claim. Know that we always choose organic when it is available. Our current kosher products are the Figure 8® Just Go! Fiber Shake and the Figure 8® Go Easy! Protein Shakes (Vanilla and Chocolate). Science, as we use it, means man-made/formulated in a laboratory. For instance, natural beeswax is a wonderful ingredient with many beneficial properties. Because it is considered an animal by-product, to use it would not be in compliance with our philosophies. To overcome this, we use synthetic beeswax, which replicates the composition of natural beeswax.

q: why, if sunscreen is so important, is it not in all of your moisturizers? why do you use parsol® 1789*? A: We have formulated some of our moisturizers without SPF in order to accommodate the portion of the population that may be sensitive to it. Those with a sensitivity to sunscreen are offered a choice and may combine products from two different lines to fit those needs. The Arbonne Intelligence Daily Moisturizing Cream, Day & Night does not contain any sunscreen. The NutriMenC™ RE9 Moisturizing Sunscreen and the NutriMinC® RE9 Day Crème each contain an SPF of 8. Additional sunscreen, such as our BefoRE Sun Damage Control, SPF 30 or our BefoRE Sun Save Face and Body, SPF 15 can always be applied either over or under your moisturizer for those that desire a higher SPF. Parsol®1789*, listed in the ingredient lists as avobenzone, serves as a powerful UVA absorber. It allows effective protection without being heavy or ashy like other sunscreens can be, allowing for a lotion that is more lightweight and easily absorbed. *Parsol® 1789 is a registered trademark of DSM Nutritional Products Inc.
