I Can Be A Wild Thing…. “Mask” by Regina Davis

Read the story, Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. Choose which mask would fit your classroom students’ heads best. Read the words with your students. Have your students cut out the mask. Show them how to cut out the middle section. (Bend gently in half, snip the middle, and cut around the inner circular line.) Have pre-cut, white butcher paper strips (long enough to wrap around your students’ heads and narrow enough to fit behind the top of the “mask”). Staple or glue the middle of the white, butcher paper strip behind each mask. Once the butcher paper is attached to the top, back of the “mask”, wrap the two ends of the butcher paper strips around the back of your student’s head. Pinch the 2 paper strips together at the back or your student’s head, take the “mask” off of your student and staple the two ends together. Cut off any extra butcher paper that is past the stapled area. --Happy Creating! Regina Davis
