SolentNet – Windows Mobile 6.0 Connection Instructions 1. Click on “Start” and select “Comm Manager”.

3. Click on “Start” and select “Settings”. 4. Click on the “Connections” tab and then click on the “Wi-Fi” icon.

2. Make sure “WLAN” is turned off (this stops connect messages appearing whilst you’ll still configuring wireless).

5. Change “Networks to access:” to be “Only access points” and click on “Add New…”.

6. For “Network name:” type SolentNet and set “Connects to:” to be “Work”. Click on “Next”.

8. Set “EAP type:” to be “PEAP” and click on “Finish”. N.B. clicking on “Properties” will give you an error message so just ignore that button.

7. Set “Authentication:” to be “WPA2” and “Data Encryption” to be “AES”. Click on “Next”.

9. Click on the “Network Adapters” tab and click on “IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi Ad…”.

10. Make sure “Use server-assigned IP address” is selected and click on “OK” in the top right-hand corner.

12. Click on “Start” then “Settings”.

13. Click on the “Connections” tab and then the “Connections” icon. 11. “IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi Ad..” should still be highlighted so now set “My network card connects to:” to be “Work” and click on “OK”.

14. On the bottom section (titled “SSU” here but usually titled “My Work Connection”), click on “Edit my proxy server”.

15. Make sure that both “This network connects to the Internet” and “This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet” are ticked. For “Proxy server:” type staffproxy.solent.ac.uk and click on “Advanced…”.

16. Click on “HTTP”.

17. For “Port” type 8080 and click on “OK” then “OK” again.

20. For “User name:” and “Password:” enter your normal Novell username and password (the ones you use to log on to the network, Portal, myCourse etc.). Leave “Domain:” blank. Tick “Save password” to remember these details. N.B. this option is only recommended if your phone is pin-protected. Click on “OK”.

18. Click on “Start” then “Comm Manager”.

19. Click on “WLAN” to enable it and it should then detect SolentNet – make sure it is selected then click on “OK”.
